Default Nintendo to be fined by the European Commission

Quote:
NINTENDO GUILTY OF VIOLATING EURO ANTI-TRUST LAW

The Japanese giant is reportedly set to be fined after being found guilty of illegally banning software sales between European countries

Nintendo has been found guilty of a violation of European anti-trust laws, the Wall Street Journal reports today. The European Commission's antitrust department has found the company in breach of the law by preventing software and hardware sales between different European countries.
Though software across the EU is identical, different countries have different pricing schemes in operation despite the so-called "single-market," and Nintendo is reported to have been preventing customers buying cheaper products from different countries to preserve its profit margins.

According to the article, the company may be sanctioned as early as next Wednesday.

When contacted for comment, a spokesperson for Nintendo said: "A formal decision has not yet been recieved from the European Commision, however we are aware that a decision is imminent."

We'll keep you fully up-to-date on all all developments.
Well that sums it up now all 3 Console makers have had ANTI-TRUST law suits. Microsoft in the US Sony in Japan and Nintendo in the EU. Maybe now some of you may see Nintendo is just like the rest of them.

The only difference is that Microsoft can easily manipulate the law... but can Nintendo?

Apparently they can't seeing as they were found guilty. Didn't donate enough money to the campaigns of the current politicians or something.

Or maybe that only happens in the U.S.

Hmm I don't get it. GameCube games are the cheapest games in EU (not counting PC games or PS2 platinum).

GC: €60
PS2: €70
X-B: €70.

AGB games are kinda expensive though... sometimes €50!!

Well at least we, oh sorry, I will get GC and AGB games cheaper!

They didn't let people buy "cheaper products from diferent countries". How can they do that?

Law suites arent always for money, or just for money. When you have to pay somebody something its a fine.

Nintendo is preventing people from different countries from buying cheaper products to mantain its profit margin.Right? Well I tought it was "Nintendo is preventing people from buying cheaper products from other countries. My bad.

Goddamnit, I just read on IGN they've been fined

$145 MILLION U.S. Dollars.

That's ridiculous! That basically takes away half of all the Rare earnings. Maybe Rare has something to do with this.
