Xbox 360 Clashes With Wireless Devices At Wal-Mart
Numerous reports have been coming in claiming that the Xbox 360 has been interfering with wireless devices in numerous Wal-Mart stores all over the country.
There hasn’t been an official word given by Wal-Mart, but numerous reader reports have been giving light on the issue:
2.4 RF will screw with the Symbol handhelds which are pretty much the backbone of Wal-Mart day to day business. That’s probably why they shut the consoles off. Even wireless speaker system demos that run on 2.4 will screw things up. — bb
the walmart i live by and sadly work at, has a problem with the hand scanner not working properly because of the 360. strange indeed. — darksar
the scanners they use operate around 900Hz, they cant use cordless phones cuz they mess with the outdated system — darksar
I work at walmart…. the truth is that the 2.4ghz interferes with our “Smart”system. nation-wide all walmarts had to stop using the pa system, because costumers complain, so 360’s 2.4 is a scapegoat. at my store we use wireless home theater systems as our excuse — BugX
I work at a Wal Mart here. We had a problem like this too. But with us it crashed our SMART system, which made all handheld terminals not function. Those handheld devices use a wireless network to function and somehow it interfered with that. — Charlie
Went to the Ypsilanti, MI Walmart yesterday and they had the 360 there but it was not turned on because the electronics person said it was interferring with their photo lab. A rep is supposed to come this week and fix it. It looked good but would have liked to have played it. — Krista
The WalMart in Lansing, MI has one, but it’s not running because Peggy, Mildred and Linda (not their real names, but pretty descriptive of the old ladies working this dept) in the electronics department SWEAR that it’s screwing up their cash register scanner. I don’t believe it, myself. I think that the MS rep didn’t set it up, and the WalMart yokels screwed up the 360 by setting it up themselves before they were supposed to do it. — XenoCorpse
Inline kiosk is up in Walmart in Kewanee, IL but not playable. According to the guy at the electronics counter: “it screws up all of our electronics” — vidGuy
No word as to whether an investigation will be launched in more reports and complaints arise.

Re: Walmat Hates Xbox
I would imagine that Microsoft would have done extensive testing on the wireless aspect. I don't think it would mess with general household wireless devices. My guess/assumption is that the main problem is with their handheld scanners at Wal-mart. They must run at exactly the same frequency and wal-mart is throwing a fit because those scanners are the most important thing for wal-mart employees.

Re: Walmat Hates Xbox
I wonder if this means that since the 360's are already packaged and possibly in warehouses just about to be shipped, if that MS finds a bug/issue in their wireless portion of the 360 if they will delay it or not.

Re: Walmat Hates Xbox
you'd think it'd bring in more customers, and wal-mart would actually like it.

not if it is messing with their system... those handheld scanners are how they keep track of merchandise, set prices, and various other things that i can't remember at the moment. but i think they might be slightly outdated so maybe they'll consider getting a new system. i know my sister has carpal tunnel from holding that thing all the time, they need something new.

The customers should protest the faulty stores by placing magnets on all the TV screens.

Yeah, at Best Buy we used them too.
It's kind of funny, each gun is like $4000. But a simple home console can screw something like that up?
Besides, the guns I used ran on Microsoft Palm software. Honestly.

Re: Walmat Hates Xbox
I actually wonder where the problem is...if its with Microsoft for not factoring in that something else uses that frequency, or on Walmat for being outdated, to a degree.
Maybe this is some scheme to bring down another corporation, all plotted by Microsoft.
Then Microsoft will buy Wal-Mart saying they will build them back up, but instead selling the name to a store that sells carpentry items.
Its a conspiracy I tells ya.
