Well to be honest, I didn't look inside, but I was just at a website that gave the Dimension 2400 a review, and they said:
-----------------
Cheaper budget PCs can be had elsewhere, but Dell’s Dimension 2400 offers a solid feature set and a strong warranty, though its performance is merely adequate.
The good: Wide-ranging support and upgrade options; smooth DVD playback and sound; great multimedia keyboard.
The bad: No AGP slot for dedicated graphics card.
By Asa Somers, July 8, 2003
Dell has updated its budget PC line with the arrival of the Dimension 2400. Slightly faster Pentium 4 processors and a slightly improved Intel chipset mean--you guessed it--slightly improved performance over that of its predecessor, the Dimension 2350. Our 2400 test system had a 2.4GHz Pentium processor, 333MHz of DDR memory, dual optical drives, and a 17-inch CRT--features that straddle the line between budget and midrange. Of course, at $968, the price of our test system is on that same border, though you can scale back by opting for a Celeron processor and a single optical drive, for example. With integrated graphics and no AGP slot for upgrading, you shouldn’t nurture any dreams of turning the 2400 into a multimedia powerhouse. The system offers acceptable application performance, however, for price-wary consumers, such as students, small-business owners, and home-office dwellers.

It will be cheaper for me to build a PC anyway. Well, someone else will be doing it for me, but overall it will be much cheaper.

Just build your own. its more fun anyway and you know exactly what each part can do cuz you have instuction booklets on everything you buy for it.

Yeah. It's much cheaper anyway. I can quadrouple the RAM in my older PC for only 60$. 256 MB DDR costs 59.99
I am kind of low budget for a video card, but I have two options right now:
ATI Radeon 9200 - 149.99
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 128MB DDR - 129.99
Which of those two would you recommend?
And I can get a Western Digital 7200 RPM 40GB Hard Drive for 159.99..
Then all I need is a motherboard, a processor, a new fan, and maybe a new sound card. I can use my old case, and I already have a cdrw and a cdr.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: What a night...
but isnt the RAM in your older PC SD ram? i believe it would max out at 512 if thats the case.
not sure about the vid card. depends if the FX uses the nv30 or nv35 chip
and bro... 40gig HD for 159? OUCH!
i just recently picked up a 120gig Western Digital 7200 RPM hard drive for $130
and i think i seen them for cheaper.
I mean, i know thoes are canadian prices your showing, but still, seems WAY too high.

Well what I meant was, that for 60$, I can get 4x the RAM. Everything in my old pc will be taken out and replaced (except for the power supply and fan).
And how do I know what chip the card uses? Will it say on the box or something? And which one is better? nv35?
And I also think I saw cheaper hard drives, I'll look around, because like you said, thats expensive for only 40GB.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: What a night...
I picked up a new 60GB 7200 RPM hard drive today for $79.99 at futureshop. While I was there, I also helped myself to a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 128MB DDR for 129.99.
Twas a good day indeed. Unfortunately the RAM was no longer on sale, but it should be on sale again by next weekend. Then I pick up my motherboard and new P4 processor, and my upgrade shall be complete.
Total cost with tax for all my upgrading sh*t - $481.00 CAD
Oh, and I also managed to get a router on sale for $20 (down from $100). I can taste that Final Fantasy XI now...
