Well whatever you do make sure you have their interest, and throw in a joke or two if you can and one thing ...be confident.

Whatever you do though, don't try to force humor. Try it on someone else to make sure they think it is funny. There is nothing worse in a speech when someone tries to make a joke and it sucks.

Something of that nature happened back when I was in 8th. This really geeky kid was running for president of the school. At the very end of his long boring speech( everyone besides *some* of the teachers were sleeping) he said this really stupid joke nobody liked. And it also was very loud so it woke everyone that was sleeping up. That pissed everyone off so they began to throw there lunches, pencils, pens, and etc. at him. Then he started to cry infront of the entire student body. Now it got really bad, he woke everyone up, said a terrible joke, was really geeky, and cried like a baby infront of everybody. A couple of my friends started to shout things at him now. That created a chain reaction that in total was one loud riot. All I could here was the splatering of foods and drinks and breaking of things. For the most part you could'nt even here what most of the people were saying. Thats how much comotion there was. I can only recall some of the random stuff people were shouting . **** licker. ***get. ****ing pu**y. ****ing geek. The funny thing was that it never stoped until the end of the day. The asembly started at the last peroid of the day and ended when the bell rang for the students to exit the building and report to there buses. Mind you there were nearly 200 students in the auditorium so you can only imagine how far this went. I remember seeing many of the teachers take some students out but there was to many of us and not enough of them. The kid that was running was escorted by a teacher to his bus so no people would give him anymore trouble. It must have been because so many of the students that participated in this that noone was scared to stop or basically not do it at all.The next day though when we all came back most of us recieved detentions and there were police in the builing ready to do there duty if anyone wnated to get fiesty again and i am still surprised why nobody didnt ever rebel against the teachers again. I will always remeber that day and will carry this story on for gererations to come. For any more details on the story I only shortened this and typed through very fast so didnt get to check over anything and may have forgot some stuff. Wait, how could I forget. Anyhow, yeah that was my 8th grade year and I will never remember any other thing in my childhood more than this event. Oops, i just noticed I didnt get to indent for paragraphs.Oh well, it was only supposed to be a short little accqusition then i had to finish it because i have never once started that story and never finfished it after the hundreds of times i have told poeple. Enjoy!

I’m Robert McCutchan and I’m running for Historian. I am organized, detail-oriented, and perfect for this job so you should vote for me. Thank you and have a nice day.

That would suck so much to be that geek. I didn't know people could be that cruel...
Anyway, they have elections at my HS, but no one ever votes, and the candidates don't give speeches. Once they get in office they don't do anything so it doesn't really matter. :/

Urrgh. On the subject of speeches, I have to write 2 compositions.
One on the topic of "The Future needs me to be.." This is a "mandatory contest". If I win, I get money I guess. Which means that's good.
The second composition is my less favorite of the two. I have to write a Vote of Thanks to either my parents or the school/staff for all the years I've spent at ICS (my school). Everyone has to do this and make it a speech that has to be 2 minutes. I don't like giving speeches. I don't do that stuff... I just hope my essay is not picked, because I do not want to read it in my graduation.

Most of the best known oraters have taken classes or have some sort of formal training in oration.
I actually have A LOT of experience with public speaking. I've giving homilies/sermons in church have been elected/appointed to several school related and other positions etc.
When writing a GOOD, EFFECTIVE speech, just make sure of one thing... could YOU sit and listen to your speech. If someone else delivered YOUR speech, what would happen? Would you vote for yourself? Would you get totally bored? Write an honest speech that would make you want to vote for someone and would keep your interest!
