Well I sent Hotmail an email on the matter and they responded a little later than they promised, but they certainly seem very nice and understanding on the matter. Here's what they had to say:

We are still on the process of upgrading all free accounts to a larger storage capacity of 250MB. There are still a lot of free accounts that has yet to be upgraded. Please do not worry as we did not leave you behind. You are important to us, and our Technical Support Engineers are working hard on this, so you could enjoy the benefits of a 250MB account the soonest possible time.

I understand that it's taking us some time to finish the process and I thank you for your patience. With over 170 million accounts, we would like to make sure that the performance of each account will not, in any way, be affected. As our valued customer, we always would like to provide you the best possible e-mail experience using our service.

Well...finally. 250MB's baby.


Somehow it dosent feel as good as it should.

Yeah, my band's e-mail was finally upgraded to 250 MB but my personal account isn't yet. It's great though because we always hovered at about 85% and now we're down to 1%...Fantastic.

Yeah, mine was just updated yesterday. Looks like they're getting around the the last of us all at once.

Yea, I just got mine too.

Its nice to go from 30% space used down to 1% in one day.

I'm pretty sure it's based on how active your account is.

If you're up in the 50-100% storage usage then you get updated.

My old hotmail got updated even though I don't use it much anymore, but the 2 mb's were pretty done.

I was in the 75% area and didnt get updated till today. Mmmmm space
