The only reason Lincoln freed the slaves was because he hoped they would aid the north in winning the war. He initially only freed slaves in those states that were in rebellion.
Now FDR on the other hand was a great president. Sure he tried to stack the supreme court, but he got us out of the depression so it's all good.
