Default Nintendo's Excuse for Mario?

Well this is taken from IGN's interview

Quote:
IGNcube: Is this why the visuals don't seem to be a leap over Mario 64?

Miyamoto: I guess you could say that's one reason. The other thing is that we're trying to create this idea of a really, bright, sunny and tropical world. And when you get into these very bright, vibrant colors it becomes difficult to do some of the graphics that you see in, say Star Fox. If you look at Star Fox, you see each individual hair coming off Fox's face now -- showing off some of the real power of the GameCube. That's great. But with Mario Sunshine we're looking to have all kinds of things going on-screen at once in this incredibly vibrant world.

Iwata: And besides, it's about how the different teams want to use the power of the GameCube. How they want to use it to add their own touch and feel to their specific games. If everybody tries to do the same thing people would get bored very soon.
Well I guess some of it makes sense..I mean StarFox has beautiful fur and graphics.. well Mario has bouncing landmasses..

It's a very appropiate explanation. You amateur gamers are lost looking for "eye candy."

IGNcube: Can you tell us a little more about Mario Sunshine. We see the paint falling from the skies. The worlds are morphing. How does this all play into the game?

[Miyamoto reveals a gameplay mechanic detail in Japanese to translator, but then asks that we not print it.]

Miyamoto: Actually, I'm under strict orders not to say. Detailed information only at E3. Obviously we're trying to keep a lot of the details about the game very secret so that we can surprise people with them by the time E3 rolls around. So that's not why we're talking a whole lot about the game at this time.

I wish I could tell you something. So I guess if I had to say anything, I would say that you can see in the video that Mario has some kind of a water gun on his back. I can tell you that this is going to be an important new item and element to the game.

For the most part, it's really kind of a continuation of the style and tradition of Mario 64. This time with the power of the GameCube what we're going to see is a world that really, truly comes to life with a lot of things going on simultaneously.
It makes sense to add this quote since it comes before the one aboves and it sort of gives a lead in

Well, all i really care about is weather it's a fun game, Mario 64 was a really fun game. I hope this follow's that tradition, it may not have the best graphics. Although i think it could be better, if they tried to make it look realistic, it just wouldn't be mario. But then again, i haven't seen the game in action or even played it.
I think i'll wait to see what's it's like at E3.

Mario from NES to N64 was made to display Nintendo's system's visual ability.... why should this game be any different???

I'm not going to complain if this game plays well, but I'm sure the general plublic will complain when they figure out that it isn't a huge technical leap over N64....

Reminds me of Crash... they brought the great gameplay, and barely made the graphics any better for Ps2... but every site everywhere gave it decent to low scores.

Hmm I always wondered.. everyone says Mario on SNES,NEs and n64 were visual treats.. after seeing Mario SunShine.. I will just say they looked so damn good because they were the first.. I mean many games after SMB 1, SMW and SM64 beat the hell out of it in graphics.. but it was so amazing.. because there usually was nothing else to compare it to...

From NES to N64 mario was the Launch title.

So This one is already differnt.

for GC, they had a differnt game represent the visuals at launch. They're tryin to do something more with it now.

Maybe the world will be so damn full of life, we will forget the Bad Textures and the fact that Mario looks the same as he did on N64. Maybe its going to be something like everywhere you go, if you look closely, you will find that there is so much more to the world than meets the eye. Like, for instance, if you look at the lets say grass, you might actually be able to see every blade of grass, with all the details you could imagine like bugs and worms in the grass. Of course, you dont even see these things if your not looking for them. Just like in the real world. There are coutless other examples, but you see my point.

Umm... ok

Mario 2/3 were launch titles?

anyway...

I stand by my opinion, the general plublic will not accept mario too quickly... hopfully the gameplay is good, because if it isn't Gamecube is in trouble.

2/3 were never meant to be a showcase of the graphical power.

They were great graphics at thier time.

But what i THOUGHT you were talkin about. is when they release a console, they put a game out to show what the console can do. majority of the time that was the mario series

I'm talking about how when Mario comes out, whenever it comes out (launch or not), it's always the best looking game on it's system...

I would like to disagree..

I don't know about you but when Super Mario Bros 2 was released it was ok looking not the greatest...

And Super Mario Wrold 2.. was a graphical feat?

And if you want to count the RPGs... I'm sure Paper Mario used every bit of the n64's power
