Default Another Interview with Shiggy (SFA LONG?)

Well ole motor mouth is at it again. In yet another interview, Shiggy speaks. I'm really starting to wonder how he makes these games with all his interviews and all...

Miyamoto Talks GameCube Lineup
8:31pm 03/01/02

Nintendo's famed producer Shigeru Miyamoto recently met with the press to discuss development on several upcoming GameCube titles. To begin, Miyamoto-san was asked about his eagerly awaited plumber sequel, Mario Sunshine. Speaking about the game, Miyamoto-san said, 'We're not at a stage where I can comment on gameplay specifics in Mario Sunshine. However, the game will be shown at this year's E3 show later this spring in America. From a general development standpoint we used Mario 64 as a basis, but I can't say anything more yet.'

Next, he was pressed about the status of Zelda for the GameCube. Specifically, the game has been radically changed to a cell-shaded RPG, a sharp contrast from its polygonal predecessors on the Nintendo 64 and original GameCube demonstration videos. Miyamoto-san responded, 'It's scheduled for release later this year. We're concentrating on the gameplay now because if we keep releasing new images from the game, that's all the press will focus on. [smiles..] A playable demo version will be ready for E3 as well, and I hope everyone looks forward to it.'

One of the most impressive GameCube titles shown at E3 last year was StarFox Adventures. Being co-developed by Nintendo and Rare, Miyamoto-san had the following to say about the game, 'StarFox Adventures is going to be a big game. Depending upon the player, the game could have a playing time which exceeds 100 hours. It's a very beautiful looking game and it makes me proud of the GameCube hardware itself. [smiles..]'

Another title that drew crowds at last year's E3 was 'Eternal Darkness,' a Resident Evil style horror title featuring stunning lighting and audio effects. When asked for his thoughts on the game, Miyamoto-san said 'The writers behind Eternal Darkness are very skilled. While it was developed separately in Canada, some of our Japanese staff members are helping to finish the game now and making sure it's up to Nintendo's quality standards. It's a horror title with zombies and theatrical style action, so naturally the writer plays a large part in the game's development. The story is particularly interesting, and sends characters back through time.'

Lastly, Miyamoto-san and Nintendo's communications director Satoru Iwata were asked about the next-generation of Pokemon in development for Nintendo's GameCube. In response, Iwata-san said, 'Our plans for the Pokemon GameCube title have changed somewhat. We were approaching development from one angle, but a definitive direction for the project hasn't been decided. Development on the next-generation of Pokemon 'Gold' and 'Silver' is progressing however, and they will be scheduled for release possibly within the year in Japan and America on the GameBoy Advance. We always want our games to be as perfect as possible, so we hope players will have patience in waiting for a final release announcement. Like I said however, development is progressing and I'd expect a formal announcement soon.'

Wow.. SFA could be over 100 hours.. even if they are exaggerating like Luigi.. that is probably still a good 30 hours

Imagine even if it's 60 hours of gameplay... DAMN!!

Also if they add some replay value (like second time through the game you get secret weapons, power-ups etc) this will rule!!

100 hours?

SK says Blood Omen is 100 hours long... hopefully SFA won't be as repetitive and stuff... it got boring after awhile for me...

And for the really bad gamers, they are looking at about 200+ hours

So that would mean that I will only need 20 hours to finish it! Lol! Just kidding of course.

Even if the game was only 20 hours for me, I would still consider that a pretty long game for an action/adventure game. Most lately have been undesirably short and it will be nice to have a game that lasts a couple of weeks for me. I want it to have substance.

I think Shiggy may be streching the truth on that 100 hour thing.... I don't even think this game has been in development long enough to have 100 hours of solid gameplay...

But I dunno, listen to how he said it:

depending upon the player, GTA3 for Ps2 could take 500+ hours to beat

StarFox will be shown at e3 for a 3rd year..ofcourse under a different name all 3 years.. but that means the basic game has been in production for over 3 years..gives it enough time to be long

I enjoy a nice long game. They should try to make a game that requires a whole lifetime to beat. That would be for the ultimate gamer only.

If the game itself took a lifetime to beat, it would take even longer to make They'd have to pass it down from generation to generation and then when it's released it would look like crap compared to the other stuff that was out heh heh heh...
