Videogame Violence!
I found this on a web comic site, wow...just wow, now the media's going to pursue the "videogames cause violence" angle all over again.
I'm sorry, this is bull****.

Re: Videogame Violence!
nah, i dont think they're going to go back to the whole video game violence thing again because i think the whole thing was over the theft itself and not the things stolen, besides the guy allready had asualt charges and stuff...either way, this is just stupid...and where the hell did the teenagers come into all this...who the hell would say "yeah i don't mind killing people for no reason"

but seriously, the entire thing is blown outta porportion, happydude's right, its not the console thats to blame its the guy himself, but the media makes more publicity if they use the violence angle. And then all the retarded people who believe everything they see on tv start raging on about violent videogames.

What exacty is blown out of proportion here? I read the article, and at no point does it even come close to insinuating that playing video games in any way caused this. Sure it mentions the Xbox as one of the possessions stolen, but it never claims that this man chose to kill this person because his mind was warped by the videogames that he played...

Re: Videogame Violence!
That never said anything about the Xbox being the cause of the murder, it never said anything about games making him kill. It was just a story about burglury. That didnt back up any "video games cause violence" theory, because there was no mention of that in the article. This was a waste of my time.

Re: Videogame Violence!
While I agree that this article doesn't come right out and say "games cause violence", but check out the title of the article. Many things were stolen, but the title directly links the Xbox to the murders. This is called correlative causation. The author makes the correlation and then allows the reader to insinuate the causation for themselves. Its used often in journalism, unfortunately, and is a an especially useful tool for those that make "dosumentaries" such as our dear frind Mr. Moore.
Basically its a way to link to subjects together without actually saying that they are linked.

If someone stole my videogames I might fly off and kill 6 people too. In fact I probably would.

Re: Videogame Violence!
Yeah, this all leads back to a very sad argument is it the gun or the person that killed him.. It was obviously the gun but who pulled the trigger.. It's all because of the degrigation of today's society. I mean if you look people are more about having "things" then they are about social interaction. I feel bad for tomorrow's youth because I mean they are going to get to a point like in the movie silvester stalloone ( can't spell his name nor do I care to google search it) and sandra bullock.. (want to touch the heiny) where people don't have sex anymore they just have the cyber version and then have test tube babies where is the fun in that ? again I feel bad for tomorrows youth.

Re: Videogame Violence!
Judge Dred: ok movie decent amounts of sex and violence but lacks a little in story and special effects by today's standards I give it 6/10....... just thought Id throw that in there
back on the subject I dont think anyone can argue that monkey see monkey do and with that said some idoits out there will be violent because they saw it in a video game... although they probly also saw it in there relitives, at school, with there freinds , and on the news or other media. so theres some truth in saying that video games promote violence , IMO any show of violence is a promotion of violence, but theres so many other places that violence pops up to soley blame video games for it is nonsence.
