Factor 5 and Nintendo make like a banana...
and split (sorry stu, had to do it )
Quote:
April 14, 2004 - In a conversation with IGNcube today, Factor 5 president Julian Eggebrecht said the company would not develop any more titles for Nintendo's GameCube console. The studio is currently creating software for other platforms.
Eggebrecht would not say what titles were in development at Factor 5 nor would he talk specifically about what platform they might appear on. However, at the Game Developers Conference 2004 Eggebrecht was spotlighted as one of the studio heads very keen on Sony PSP development.
The Factor 5 president told IGNcube that no software from the San Rafael-based software house would be previewed at the forthcoming Electronics Entertainment Expo 2004, which kicks off this May in Los Angeles.

Re: Factor 5 and Nintendo make like a banana...
No, you oughta read carefully. They just aren't making games for the Gamecube at this point in time. This is a very good note for those of us who believe they're making Pilotwings for N5.
Wonder what PSP titles they'll make.

Yeah. I re-read the article a bit ago and it doesnt say anything about next-gen. But still, they split Nintendo this gen. So my title still stands!

Re: Factor 5 and Nintendo make like a banana...
split is sort of an odd word to use in this situation.
Factor 5 is third party and under no obligation to do any more projects for GC (they are still doing Pilotwings for 'N5'). They said they would do not one more thing that has to do with rogue squadron (the only gc exclusive star wars series). Likewise, Lucas Arts isnt a big supporter of cube and had no games planned for the rest of GC's existance.
Factor 5 could have done nothing more for GCN this generation and nobody would have though much of it, but since Matt asked them and they gave a straight answer, everyone goes crazy (at least at IGNboards). Its actually quite an amazing view of human nature.

Re: Factor 5 and Nintendo make like a banana...
Factor 5 excited for 'GCNext' and Nintendo DS:
Quote:
Factor 5 forgoes GameCube development
But the Rogue Squadron III studio says it is "excited" about Nintendo's upcoming consoles.
For the second time in as many days, a GameCube-exclusive studio has revealed it is developing games for other consoles. Yesterday, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes creator Silicon Knights announced the end of its second-party deal with Nintendo, but stressed it was still on good terms with the publisher.
Today, similar noises could be heard emanating from the offices of San Rafael, CA-based Factor 5. Word leaked today that the creator of the Rogue Squadron series--the GameCube's premiere Star Wars franchise--had ceased development for the console. Even though Factor 5 was technically not second-party developer--"We've never been a Nintendo shop," president Julian Eggebrecht told GameSpot--the studio was perceived as such. Its last non-Nintendo game was 1999's Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D for the PC.
However, Eggebrecht was quick to dispel any "doom" that might surround Factor 5's announcement. Echoing Silicon Knights founder Denis Dyack, he emphasized his enthusiasm for Nintendo's future console efforts. "We are extremely excited about both DS and GCNext, so any talk of us abandoning Nintendo platforms altogether is just not true," he told GameSpot.
According to Eggebrecht, the only reason Factor 5 has stopped making GameCube games was that they've abandoned current-generation hardware altogether. "It is simply because we have moved into next-generation development," he said.
As for which future console Factor 5 was creating games for, Eggebrecht was unspecific, saying only "there might be a surprise [announcement] coming from us."

Re: Factor 5 and Nintendo make like a banana...
Wow. I am really disappointed. I personally blame Nintendo. But then, I pretty much blame them for all the **** ups they're making this generation. It's only their fault. They should have made Factor 5 2'nd party a long time ago. Julian Eggebrecht himself has stated numberous times he was interested. And now I have a feeling it's too late.
I'm a huge fan of Nintendo's games. Namely Zelda, Mario, and Super Smash Bros. I'm always going to want those games. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm going to really have to think hard upon buying the N5 or not.
[sarcasm]Way to go Nintendo.[/sarcasm]
*Edit* I could have deleted what I said, but I think I still have those opinions. Now that I've fumed and read the post before me, I see that I may have overreacted. But make no mistake. I'm still pissed.

Haha, I love how Nintendo haters think what's going on and jump all over this like bad news. I think they're blinder than the fanboys.

Its ok, they should have bought them when julian wanted to. Its too late now. Buy zoonami!
Now ignboard people are really pissed matt didnt give the whole story. Its funny how much they change in a matter of min.
First excitement over metroid prime screens, then sadness of factor 5, then anger over matt. All in 9 hours.
