Damn computer noises...
So I had that little fan problem awhile back, when my fans (or maybe it was just one fan, who knows) made a helluva lot of noise while booting up then quited down shortly after. I learned to live with that, but now something inside there, probably one of the fans, is making a higher pitched constant whine...never stops. It's not terribly loud, but definatley enough to annoy beyond belief. Is there a way of pinpointing this problem, what or what fan is causing it, then fix it, even if that means buying a new fan?

Re: Damn computer noises...
fans are cheap. did you try giving the pc a gentle thumb ontop? usually if the noise stops its just a fan.
in all honesty, there arent a whole lot of things it can be anyway. only moving parts in the PC are the fans or the hard drives. and hard drives make more of a clicking sound.
only way to pin point would be to unplug the fan and run the computer, then another.
the worst case, would be if its the power supply making the noise, that would be the most expensive to replace at around $40 or higher depending on how much power you have

Re: Damn computer noises...
so about $40, just have to determine if its that or a normal fan tho. I doubt its a hard drive.

Re: Damn computer noises...
My computer did that a while back...
It was extremely high pitched, but not reall loud. It got to the point it was about to drive me insane. But after a while, it quite. It hasnt done it for a while now.

Re: Damn computer noises...
I just got 5 case fans...they won't be wearing out anytime soon.
On subject - You might want to try to pinpoint the problem by unplugging each fan/plugging in until you pinpoint the source.

Re: Damn computer noises...
I did pinpoint the problem. Seems to be either the P4 processor fan or the fan on the very back that actually sucks air into the computer I believe. But im pretty sure it's the processor fan...would that be easy to replace?

Re: Damn computer noises...
shouldnt be too hard. have to make sure what type it is.
most the fan unclips from the base, with either little levers or snaps or something.
Best idea then would be to buy one that uses the same base. If you have to change the base it may get a little more difficult if you cant easily reach the back of the motherboard to undo it.

Re: Damn computer noises...
I'm guessing it's the case fan (from your powerbox or woteva it's called). Probably accumulated heaps of dust (that's the problem I had). Get your dustbuster and start sucking.........
It worked for me

You must have real quiet fans. I can't even stand two case fans.
Do you even need that many fans?

Thats a good question...ive got 3 case fans, one that sucks air in, 2 that blow air out. Then there's the processor fan and the fan on my Radeon9500pro(At first I didnt think it even had a fan, but it does, quite tiny on the underside)

Re: Damn computer noises...
Well, I have this case Case Link Here Case Fan Here
Plus, I bought them because I want my case to glow blue everywhere...understand now
*edit*
For some f'ed up reason, when I put in the reply, thats all that came up. I have no clue what I typed for the reason, but ill just say it here in shorter terms.
Bought 5 case fans since if I bought 4, it cost $30 and if I bought 5, it also cost $30, so I took advantage of the deal on newegg.com. And its not that much louder because the case fans put out good airflow/cfm even when though its running slower. Links are above in an F'ed up area. I have no clue why GT or my computer did that.
But this computer will be getting MUCH louder once I get the Tornado 92mm Double Ball Bearing case fan for my processor (in which I will be getting the thermalright SP-97 as the heatsink which can hold a 92mm fan). The tornado sounds like a hair dryer when its on and Hero2 didnt want it because of all the noise it makes, so im getting it

Re: Damn computer noises...
i have 3 fans. all wired to switches that i made on the front.
only one fan is turned on pretty much ever. i have a case similar to jonbos, and it has another switch to glow blue.
but ya dont need that many fans, the blue lights put out little to no heat.
i have one fan on the back that blows air out. then theres only the power supply fan and the processor fan.
*edit* suppose some might need more fans dependong on the processors. some AMD processors run hotter then a Pentium usually will. but still, that many fans usually isnt needed.

The extra case fans I have arent mainly for cooling, they are there for looks. I haven't had a problem with heating, I just got the 4 extra for looks since I want this computer to look better then past ones I have had.
