How far back can you remember?
How far back can you remember? And given that your oldest memory isn't the day you were born, can you offer explanation as to why you think most people can't remember that far back.

I remember select moments from nursery school, which is when I was 3. I can't really recall much before that.

Re: How far back can you remember?
Christmas after I turned 1 year old. My sister was playing with my toys and I was frustrated that I could verbally express my disapproval.

Re: How far back can you remember?
I cant pinpoint an exact memory...But I can remember back until I was like 2 or 3. The reason I cant pinpoint a memory, is that I have a bunch of memories from a long time ago, and I dont know which ones happened first.
As to why we cant remember that far back...I dunno.

I remember from about when I was three.
I believe that long term memory cells were not top-priority when we were going through our fastest growth.

Re: How far back can you remember?
I was 1 1/2. All I was really doing was playing with my really awesome baby toys. I had this pink one that when you pressed a button a little head would pop out and a note would sound.... it was godly.
The reason people dont remember that far back is their memory isn't developed. It's extremely rare anyone will remember their birth. Some people have, but they have an IQ over 200.

Re: How far back can you remember?
My earliest memory is from when I was between age 1 and 2. Sitting on my mom's lap while she talked to my biological father (who I don't know). I think the memory thing has to do with brain cells during growth (like what Rndm said)

Re: How far back can you remember?
The farthest I can remember back is when I was probably 3-4 or so and I was in school using watercolors to color in a butterfly (which my grandma still has to this day which is kind of scary). Maybe earlier memory but not sure, but I remember being at my first house and I was walking towards the edge of the porch and I saw a smoldering cigarette sitting there, I touched the ashes and then started crying because it was still hot.

That doesn't make sense. You have other senses that did work when you weren't born. I believe that some people can vaguely remember that time.

Same here... I remember some stuff from when I was 2 or 3... but I'd have to think about it for a while before I'd know what it was.
Sometimes I see those tapes from when I was a kid, so I don't know whether I remember something from the tape or from my own head... if you know what I mean. Basicly what Mushy says.
Your memory is selective. You remember stuff that made an impression. The older you get, the bigger the impression has to be to be memorised...
