What is Canada?
I have a question for all Americans, what do you see Canada as? I'm asking this because I am under the impression that most Americans are very misinformed about Canada. And im not just talking about eastern Canada (such as Toronto) I am also talking about western Canada, like Alberta and British Columbia. So what do you think it is? A snowy ice cap, or a virtually same place as the states...without the guns?

Re: What is Canada?
Its a really really big cold place with very loose ties to Great Britian. It has nice people, some of whom speak english, others of whom speak french. You mentioned terrain, it has various types of terrain... its a big place...

Re: What is Canada?
Very touristy, very beautiful, very mountainous. The economy looks good... considering it's close to the Pacific, I assume it doesn't snow much except for in the mountainous regions.
The cities get big. Not quite New York big, but getting there (Houston size, methinks).
French speaking is more of an East Coast thing, isn't it? As for the west, I doubt the majority is bilingual (taking another language in a class at highschool does not make you bilingual).
Canada seems to not want much to do with international affairs. It just wants to live and prosper, not heal the world and be vigilant. It seems to me that Canadians are under the impression that the standard American is a lot like the elected officials; often times corrupted... or just plain ignorant of the world around them. The fact is, teens in the states are like teens in Canada. Same values, same thought processes, just different positions which would mean brought up with different beliefs.
So.. err, yes... Canada is like the States but without guns (which means potentially more unanswered violence). Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

O_o That's like saying you've never seen someone punched to death without fists, or stabbed to death without a stabbing weapon..
Guns make killing people easier... it also makes defending yourself easier. If the only weapon a person had was his/her own body, then defending yourself would be extremely difficult, and catching somebody (being a cop) would be very difficult as well.
"Stop, or I'll punch you!"
Edit:
P.S. If guns were ever made, but not legal, then only those with evil intention would try hard enough to get their hands on the weaponry... and therefor have a large advantage over those trying to defend themselves. If guns were legal, then... while it'd be easier to get your hands on a gun, you'd have to realize that everyone else can defend themselves if you tried to kill them.
P.P.S. If possible, I'll own a gun, know how to use it, and let people know about it. The playing field will be even, and nobody will want to get into a fight about it. Bwuahah.

Re: What is Canada?
hun, exactly, its harder to defend yourself, and to kill others without a gun... the murder rate might be lower if we didn't have guns

I think I sense a change in topic coming Joe. Wonder if this one will be as bad as the last...

Re: What is Canada?
I see Canada as the "free'er" version of the US. Also as a place to go with a friend of mine if the draft was ever brought back before I hit age 25.
But overall, I see it as more peaceful and whatnot.

Here's a quote that I've found effective.

Re: What is Canada?
I see Eastern Canada as being like New England, in the United States. Big cities, and the like. I see western canada as being like western USA, only with more snow and the like.
I see the North West and the Yukon Territories as being tundra. I may be wrong in thinking this, but I see those two territories and being the kind of place the eskimos settled in, with few towns, and far between. Thats the same way I see Alaska.
I also think of a few words: meh, eh, and hoy. I talk to Canadians on the net so often that I use these words in everyday speech. My ex was the same way. we had a lot of online Canadian friends, so I have learned a great deal about them.
Another important thing I think of is peace. Canada is not a military driven country, in my eyes. More like mediators and peacemakers.
A quote from a guy named Colt, who invented the handgun - "I have made all men equal."
This means that a big guy cant pick on the little guy anymore, because they are all on a level shooting, er playing field. I think guns were a great creation. It not guns that kill. Its people.
