A post posted in a topic a while ago. Now I'm farely new here, but does there seem to be something wrong with that?

I've wanted to say something about this for a while, but I had neither the balls nor the reason to. But one problem that I see in these forums are short posts. I'd love to see where the median words per post is. I'll bet it's at no more then four or so. Most of these are posts that have little thought put into them and were quickly put out just because someone felt like they needed to comment.

I see post counts of ten and fifteen thousand and I choke. At several of the forums i've been to, the five year vets have hardly more then three thousand. Even the hardcore posters have less then fivethousand. But they all put alot of thought into each post.

I'm not sure exactly where I'm going with this, it being one in the morning and all-- but it's just something to think about-- is a post that says "I want dblns!!!" really worthwhile. And this isn't just directed at gamer-- but at everyone in here. I guess it's a pet peeve of mine and I just thought I'd bring it up.

Hey, all four thousand something odd posts of mine have been longer than 10 words.

Well, most of them have.

Anyway, I agree with you to an extent, but there's not really much to be done. People will post what they want to post. GameTavern does have a post-cramming rule, but the current interpretation is that a member is not post-cramming if his posts contribute something to the discussion. This is a difficult thing to determine, and I'm a conservative moderator anyway. So what ends up happening is people get away with it.

I subscribe to the view that nobody values post counts around here that much anyway. Without naming names, I can safely say that a lot of people with post counts in the thousands don't have nearly as much respect from other members as some people who have just a few hundred posts. By and large, I think people here recognize the value of quality over quantitity. So if you want to make lots of useless posts and be perceived by everyone as a shallow, non-essential permanent newbie, be my guest.

Gamer was just joking. I don't know what thread you pulled this out of but I also feel not every post needs to be a novel. Some things are best put one or two words. Well written topic though.

*looks at last few posts*

is this what you are talking about???

*looks at own post*

I gotta strech this to over 10 words....

anyways....

You must go to a SLOW board if a 5 year vet has 3,000 or less posts....

About 7 of the top ten posters make long posts all of the time.... people who make short posts don't last here long because they become bored.

THey are one given out by making intelligent post and good topics. ( and I made a few..so errrr where'e mine??)

And I think they are given out by post count, am I correct?

And then you can get some from your fellow members by various methods.

BTW Angrist or Blackmane...you guys wanna play starcraft for some dblns? I'll play you for 10 dblns each game?

Two words.

Ehh.. as long as the posts have a point to them.. not just making a new post to say , then I think it's fine.

There are some instances and some topics where quality over quantity is better.

Would you rather have 3 words that sums everything up to the point, or post that are 5 paragraphs long and just ramble on *cough*DH*cough*?

Maybe this post right now is a pretty healthy size.
