Default A Few Questions

Ok, I'm trying to upgrade my computer and I have a few questions.

I need a new motherboard and processor (either P4 or AMD, doesn't really matter). I know where to buy a few motherboards, but I have no idea what to look for in a board. If anyone knows where I can pick up a good motherboard which is compatible with either P4 or AMD processors, and has an AGP slot for a good price, that'd be great. Also, if you could tell my exactly what makes a good motherboard, that'd help too. On a related note, someone was telling me I might need a new power supply if it's not compatible with my new motherboard. How do you know if they would be compatible or not?

Ok, concerning the processor, I can't seem to find a place that sells them seperately. Does anyone know where I could get a P4 (I'm thinking around 2.4 or higher ghz) for a good price?

Keep in mind I'm on a budget, but I can stretch the funds a bit if necessary.

Thanks.

Yeah I agree with ominub get the 2500+ barton.. But if you really want to have a great computer get the AMD 64bit

[edit] ok if for the motherboard if your going for the amd brand you want ot get the 400mhz frontside bus with atleast an 8x agp vid slot. now if your going for pentium (hich I don't reccomend) I'd say get the 800 fsb with the 8x agp again

If you were to get a P4 mobo and processor, you most likely will have to get a P4 compatible power supply because I think the P4 mobo's have an extra power thing that you have to plug in and if your power supply doesn't have it, then you can't run the mobo. That's basically what your friend was talking about you maybe having to get a new power supply if you got a P4.

But ummm..if your on a budget, you can get a good AMD mobo between $75-150 and 2500 Barton for $90 on www.newegg.com But if you figure out whether your getting a P4 or an AMD, post it and others will help find you a good deal.
