What have we learned...
from the constant religion threads? Going through this froum and the general talk forum, there have been numerous threads discussing all sorts of stuff like God, homosexuality, Islam, evolution, and all sorts of flammable materials. They stretch over many pages, never solve anything only to be brought back up again in maybe a few weeks or a little longer.
Do we learn anything from them? Or do we just like arguing to validate what we believe in?

The latter unless you hear something you've never heard before.

Re: What have we learned...
Well I know that from arguing in the Religion thread, I did not learn anything, because there was nothing to learn. The arguments were just people expressing their opinions. You can never learn anything from an opinion.

It depends whether or not the people actually know what they are talking about.

Quite right. You cant learn anything from an opinion, but you can choose to agree with an opinion.
Which brings me to my next point, all religon and philosophy is is opinions. Thus we could never have learnt anything from any of this. Its not what we have learned, micky, its what we have discussed and revealed that counts.
But I must say, Crono gave Micky a mighty good lesson about explosions in the religion thread. Surely he learnt something.

Even if that was the only thing you learned, it was all worth it.

BUT, you don't just say this is my opinion. It is your opinion because you believe it to be true, like when Shadow Link would argue with Bond or the Strangler about Islam, or when nWOChris would dispute the bible and creation. They rarely, if ever just say "This what I think, I may be wrong." It's an opinion to someone else, but out of the speaker's thoughts it is a fact.

Well, you can normally separate an opinion from a fact. Most arguments are usually more fact than opinion. But it's not like you hear people stopping and indicating when they are going from a fact to their opinion. I think you should be able to tell when someone is stating an opinion or when someone is stating a fact. If you're unsure you can always ask.

Re: Re: Re: Re: What have we learned...
I've learned that when people are passionate, nothing matters. Many people who posted in this forum have posted well-thought out arguements in others, but when it is something this important, everything else goes to hell.
But then again, I think we all knew than anyway, so never mind. I did prefer the politics one though
