Suikoden III Questions
1) Are Suikoden 1 and 2 related to 3?
2) Do you need to have played 1 and 2 before playing 3 to understand the story?
It's not released here yet in Australia, but I'm craving for a high quality console RPG badly.

1) Yes, pretty much. All in the same universe, different time eras.
2) No, you can pick up anywhere. But Crono told me about the deal they have with the memory card saves. When you finish Suikoden 1, you can transfer that data to 2, and then to 3.
Yes, all three are high quality, but unfortunately, they're hard to find. But, Konami's reissued new copies of Suikoden 3, so it's not out of print.

Re: Suikoden III Questions
Well, Suikoden III isn't as connected to the previous ones as Suikoden II was connected to Suikoden I. It takes place 15 years after Suikoden II, just in a different area of the world. There aren't as many returning characters this time. However, as I did, you can still enjoy Suikoden III without playing the previous games, but if you did play the previous ones, than it may be a bit better for you, but I wouldn't worry, the story stands alone basically, and like I said, I never played the others when I played Suikoden III and I still enjoyed it.

Well, just like Crono, I played the game before even touching Suikoden 1 or 2. Also, I am sure you'll love the game, it's a lot of fun and has one of the greatest stories ever to a game.
So the stories are connected, but you don't have to play the first two in order to play the third... although you can transfer your Suikoden II saved file to your Suikoden III new file, it's not really nessasary.
And Bobcat, when does it come out in Australia?

When was it released in the US?

There are both *gasp* and dissapointment factors if you play Suikoden and Suikoden II before Suikoden III.
Suikoden III has a lot of nifty plot twists and character appearances that would shock one who had played Suikoden I and II. However, Suikoden III was the first of the series to go 3D, which took a bit out of the usual gameplay and overall feel of the first two. Also, while the third game is excellent by normal standards, it didn't feel as "epic" as I had hoped, having played the first two before hand.
So, without playing the first two, you should be impressed by the story line, mass of characters, the gameplay, and possibly even the graphics (they're mediocre). You will miss out on inside jokes and plot twists though.

Bobcat, I just remembered this, but a few months ago I read that the PAL version of Suikoden III was cancelled. You may have to import it.

oh ffs.
Stupid PAL. I can't play imported Ps2 games. Don't have the S/W or H/W.
I'm gonna have to leave it then. I saw Wild Arms 3 at my local video store. Maybe that's worth hiring.

Proceed with caution, I myself did not like WA3 at all. But if it's being sold for a good price, you could try it out. Otherwise, you might want to rent it first.
