Grand Theft Auto: Next. What do you want to see?
I think it's pretty much confirmed that we'll see one more GTA game this gen...
What do you want to see implimented in this new GTA game?
Quite frankly, I think they need something different than "GTA3 in a city other than Liberty City or Vice City". GTA3 was awesome...and GTA Vice City was very good. My guess would be that if they made 'GTA _____' that adds little to the series I'd probably think it would be 'pretty good'. And the series has much more potential than 'pretty good'.
Online play would open up so many opportunities...it could go as far as being the most detailed, interactive city simulation ever created. But I don't see the PS2 capable of giving us that gaming experience. PS3? Quite possibly...
I bet there won't be any online play for the next PS2 edition of GTA. But I do want to see a number of realistic additions:
-Better story. Hire some Hollywood calibur writers, and deliver a story full of emotion, plot twists and character. Make the lead character look vulnerable...like you'll have to WORK YOUR ASS OFF if you're gonna make it in the life of crime.
-Level diversity. The next GTA game needs hills, cliffs, maybe even a mountain or two (imagine some cable car levels). Vice City was way too flat...I want to see car chases that have you flying down steep roads. I want to see a mission where the lead character has to infiltrate a building from the sky (hang-glider? sky diving?). I want to see the low parts of the city, and I want to see the elevated parts of the city
-Multiple cities? Maybe the lead character will get in such a bad position that they need to leave town. Start the game off in one city, lead the character into a trap, and force them to jet to another. Also, the diversity would be there. You could be in a snow filled Colorado like level to a hotter, more lively New Orleans like setting.
-Side missions that add to the story (or multiple ways of completing the game). Say you're having a crap load of trouble with drug dealing. Why not start up another business? Lots of games these days have multiple paths, and multiple endings. I'd like to see a GTA game that is less linear (mission-wise). Maybe you don't want to protect your boss...maybe you want to kill him, and join another gang/group of criminals.
-Engine overhall. The control scheme still isn't effective...make a complete gameplay/control engine overhall, and try something that could work a little better. Make a new graphics engine (a new Renderware engine, maybe?) that smoothens out character models, cars and buildings.
-More. Talk. Radio. When I feel like driving around town, I either want to listen to music, or talk radio. Unfortunately, there's a much more limited amount of talk radio content. The commercials are hilarious too...keep that going.
Now it's your turn. What do you want to see?

I was looking at IGN's idea list, and IGN has quite a few good ideas for the next GTA. Although I'm no big fan of GTA right now, but, if Rockstar made it more realistic (please, get rid of the stupid cops that will accidently run over pedestrians when trying to chase you, and have them set up some sort of sane battle strategy, etc.) I would actually enjoy the game. I hope GTA4 or whatever actually improves and makes it a lot more diverse.

the ability to swim. I mean come on, you die every time you enter the water, give me a break.
I like to see a different gameplay structure, instead of the mission to mission thing.
I really just want it to be more realistic.

Improved graphics, less linearity with obtaining the missions (if that's even a word), less repetitive gameplay oh and something that stands out highly from the previous games. I got bored of GTA:VC because it's way too similar to GTAIII.

I'd like to travel around to places like Colorado for some JamesBond type of action on ski's(or snowboard), to New Orleans for some MardiGrass party. .
I wonder if it will be possible to come up with new weapons that have not been done before in previous games, and even some that are in theory or experimental or such.

Same here. Vice City is probably one of the worst games that I have ever bought. I mean, I liked it at first, but then I didn't play it at all later, lol.

Ditto.
And as much as I tried to like it, I hate the retro music.

I say put it in the 70's or early 90's... either way stick to making games based off of the past. It not only adds a new level of reality, it adds real music.
I think there should be better graphics... and more realistic civilains. I mean, no kids? Well, shooting kids is bad... just give a three star rating automatically if a kid is killed. There should be WAY more models... I mean 500+ different looks. They can have the same clothes based off of styles, but different faces and body sizes.

What I want to see is less glitches, better storyline (not that Vice City's story sucked), a little...easier than Vice City (yes, I found Vice City to be a bit hard for me), and best of all, more great 80's music.

I want to see the star/cop/wanted level adjusted to be more realistic. That's about all I want.
