Default New Onimushas Announced for Ps2

http://www.gamerfeed.com/index.php?story=1968

Well, Capcom announced 2 Onimusha games for the Ps2 today in a conference. The first game is Onimusha 3 which is a sequel to the series and stars the main character of the first game as well as a new French dude. Somehow the two will interact even though, they live almost 500 years apart.
Quote:
The latest sequel brings an interesting twist to the sequel - demons in present day France. To fight these demons Samanosuke enlists the help of veteran actor Jean Reno. What? Well, Jean Reno's likeness was captured for the role of Jacque Bran, a soldier in the French army who is caught up in a battle against the Genma. Jacque will take the lead in battling against the demons in present day, while Samanosuke will battle demons in his own time. The two will meet up, but it's uncertain how their meeting plays out in the story as of yet. Players will be able to control both characters, not unlike previous Resident Evil titles.
Another Onimusha first is the use of full 3D backgrounds, instead of the still renders used in the previous two installments. Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen will be the action director for the opening movie in Onimusha 3, and the company Robot returns to provide CG rendering. Flagship (Onimusha 1 & 2) will provide the storyline for the title.
The second game is Onimusha Buriden (spelling?) which is a multiplayer fighting game which looks similar to PowerStone or something.

Thanks for posting this...it's great news.

Onimusha is now full 3D, and the graphics and action have never looked better. 1500's Japan and 2004 France. The french character is being played by actor Jean Reno (you will probably notice him from 'Mission: Impossible', 'Ronin', or 'The Professional'.

And the 4 player fighting game looks like a blast, and a perfect rental for when a few friends come over.

Good news. Although I never really got into the series, it was pretty popular... or maybe it wasn't... I dunno. But good news anyway.

Here is some new details on both games

Quote:
Now onto Buraiden. It was confirmed that the game's engine is based on Onimusha 3's, so expect them to look similar. The game will support four players and will feature a story mode in which players can level up their characters by gaining experience. Leveled-up characters can then be used in four-player versus mode.

The game is quite similar to Capcom's Powerstone series in many respects. Players will be given a zoomed out view to get a greater view of the area and provide them with greater freedom to move around. Many of the environments in the game will be taken directly from the first two Onimusha games and will feature many interactive objects. And, just like in other Onimusha games characters are able to steal orbs from each other that can be used to power-up special moves.
Well it sounds cool, I wonder if that is why Capcom never announced a PowerStone 3, maybe they used some of the technology for this game?

Quote:
According to producer Keiji Inafune, Onimusha 3 will be the last of the series. He said that this was because it was only designed to be a trilogy to begin with. The game's storyline focuses on the final confrontation between Akechi Samanosuke (the samurai from the original Onimusha) and Nobunaga. As we mentioned in earlier stories, Onimusha 3 will include a new character named Jacques Blanc (modeled after actor Jean Reno). Blanc must fight off Nobunaga's demons in the city of Paris, a large portion of which was actually mapped out by the development team.

Also, players will be able to use both characters throughout the game, and sometimes both at the same time. To add to the coolness factor, Inafune-san hinted that the motorcycle scene with Jacques shown in the trailer might be a playable sequence. We shall see.
Well, I always heard that Onimusha was intended to be a trilogy, I guess this confirms it, even though I winder if they would make any spinoffs to the title or maybe even a sequel in spirit.

I still don't know how the dual character thing works since they exist so many years apart.

Quote:
Onimusha 3 is slated for a March 2004 release in Japan, and supposedly will release in North America shortly thereafter. Onimusha Buraiden, on the other hand, will make it out this year. It is scheduled for release in Japan in November and in North America before the year is out.
