OMFG. Yay!
1) Depends, there are 3 different battle systems. If you want to know about the basic combat system, well, it's pretty basic. Characters attack in pairs, meaning that only 1 command is needed for both of them. If you chose attack, both will attack. If you chose a Rune Spell, one of them will cast it while the other attacks (same with items, dont worry, you can choose who casts the spell and who uses the item). If you pair up certain characters, certain combos will open up for you in battle.
2) I would say, get 1 of any rune you don't have. Seeing as you're playing as Geddoe, another Lightning Rune really isn't needed. And Joker has a Fire Rune I believe, and some of others have some runes. You don't really need to buy Runes right now, the only ones I would recommened are Sword Of Cylone, and Sword Of Thunder. When sword-based characters use it in battle, they can become resistant to a certain type of magic, and their weapon has a certain elemental effect. I never really bought many runes at the start, so you dont really need to worry.
3) No, unless you want certain combos. Here's a little something: when you play Hugo's Chapter, pair up Hugo and Fubar, you'll like the results.
4) The appraisal shop is a shop that will identify items for you. Some items will have a ? in front, bring that to an appraisal and they'll identify it for you.
5) To use magic in battle, just select the Rune command. About magic skills, well, if you take a look in your character's skill list, you'll see a list of skills and a rank. Let's take use Geddoe as an example. He probably has Lightning Magis as one of his skills right now, and it's probably ranked as D or C. if you want him to be able to cast lightning magic faster and be more powerful, go to a skill shop (needs to be a magic one, as there is also one for physical skills), and raise up that skill. It uses up skill points though, so watch out. You need to balance your skill points wit the other skills too. Skill points are acquired after battles. Here's another example. Say if you want Hugo to have a fire rune, and he doesnt have the Fire Magic skill, you can go to the skill shop for magic and
teach him Fire Magic. So now when Hugo uses the Fire Rune in battle, it wont take him a long time to cast it, and it'll be even less when that skills goes up ranks. I really liked the skill system.
6) Yes, btw, what I said above, same thing goes for physical skills. One character may have the "Continuous Attack" skill, the higher it goes up in rank (need skill points from battles), the more times he or she is likely to attack continuously in battle. You can also teach characters new skills. The skills feature is very important, and I suggest you try to raise them as often as possible.
Hmm... what else... you should probably try to collect as many of the 108 Stars as possible, you get a nice reward at the end. Well, other than that, all I can say is, have fun.
