Default I think I'm getting tired of being around my friends...

Just like the title says. Lately, I've kind of wanted to stay away from a few friends of mine. I'm getting sick of a few of the things they do. An example would be dirty jokes. Everything gets turned into a dirty joke, and I mean everthing. I hate dirty jokes, as least ones at stupid as the ones they come up with (example: I get some cinnamon bun frosting on my fingers. Friend's reaction: "You've got white sticky stuff on yur fingers, hyuck hyuck!")

They're also more energetic and active than I am, energetic in an annoying way. One sometimes just starts walking circles around me and doesn't stop, despite my repeated urgings for him to quit. He just says, "But its just so much fun, hyuck hyuck." They just act so stupid.

They weren't like this a year ago...

Anyway, I'm kind of wanting to take a break of them but I don't know how. Should I just kind of stop hanging out with them without saying anything or should I tell them to eave me alone or what?

*sigh*

*shrugs and walks away*

People change as they grow.

Same thing happened to me. I no longer felt "part of it" with my long time friends. I had started meeting new kids once we all went to high school. And gradually I started hanging out with them more. Eventually I was hanging out with them all the time. I didn't say anything to my first group of friends. I just kind of "faded" out of the group and let things be. I'll talk with one of them once in a while but for most part I don't talk to them at all anymore. Its kind of sad in a way but thats life. In your case, maybe you just need a break. Don't say anything directly, just "fade out" for a while.

I really have no specific answer, so I'll tell you my little story hoping it helps you through another's experience...

Last semester, my first year of college, I made good friends with all the guys on my floor. There are about 14 of us on the floor, and 8 of us formed a sort of group that did everything together.

It was cool. The guys are good guys and it's fun doing things with them. But eventually they got on my nerves. They are constantly joking or pulling your leg or kidding around by poking fun at something you did. It's not always as dumb as the kind of stuff you said your friends joke about, but it's just a constant barrage of the same jokes over and over. Also they are a very judgemental type.

This semester I realized that I didn't like the guys enough to be around them all the time. So I simply stopped hanging out with them so much. I also had to keep my grades up much more than I did last semester to keep my scholarship, so I just started staying in my room more.

Fortunately, I've made better friends with my roommate and his friends, and they are much much less judgemental. Thus they are also much more fun to be around. And because I'm having more fun, and being around people who are less judgemental and less annoying, my self-esteem is soaring. Plus now I'm keeping up with my schoolwork much better, so everything is a plus.

But I didn't just completely ditch my other friends. I still hang out sometimes, and go eat with them and so on.

I don't know how much this helps. I guess some advice is to not hang out with people that you don't like. If you can, just make new friends that suit you better.

Hmmm. There's a button to "Report this post to a moderator." That looks like fun.

There is like three different groups of friends that I chill with. One is my long term friends, the other is my school friends, and the other is my long term friend's friends that I have met along the years. If I get annoyed with one group, I hang out more with another.

And ForceofNature... That was some funny stuff, keep it up.

Tell me about it.

Five years after I left my hometown for good, I still talk regularly with three people from there. Everyone else I can't really be bothered with. Might just be my intolerance, might just be that I hate the fact they never got out whilst they could and never want to. Might just be that I'm a prick who fell for the big city lights, but who knows?

Well, I still see al my old friends, go for a drink etc with them occasionally, but too much water has passed under the bridge since then and now for us to be the same people we were x years ago.

I think I must be getting old... Ah, nostalgia...
