Thumbs up Suikoden III: The Success

Awright... after a good browse through one or two threads, I've noticed that the profile references to Suikoden in general have been growing! Hooooorah! Almost wants me to ressurect my old screen-name, the "corrupt monarch" (which those from GCC may remember).

Apparently, Suikoden III is THE game that has sparked the well-deserved mass-appreciation. I see people not only using avatars of the basic characters from the new game (Hugo, Geddoe, Chris... so forth)... but I even saw a Shu! That guy's the man (Shu that is). Obviously, the person (Crono, not CrOnO) who is using this avatar has actually begun the game and realizes as I had before, that Shu is the amazing mastermind that designs the shape of the epic structure of the Suikoden games. Aside from just Shu's appearance, there are also experienced references to the true runes and (as I recall) several quotes.

Sure, it may look like I'm some pansy-ass ranting and raving about his favorite game... but it means quite a bit of me to actually have more intelligeable people in the world. The more people watch Animé (along the lines of Evangelion and Boogiepop Phantom), read epics, and play/understand such RPGs as Suikoden... the less I'll have to grip my head and wail out in agony, trying to make conversation with those that are stuck on Spongebob Squarepants and Tifa's massive chest (which I particularly do not mind discussing... but it gets old).

Thank you all who played Suikoden III and enjoyed it. I have much respect for those who do so!

... Bwuahahahaha

Anywho, beside my ranting and raving about the wonders of Suikoden, I'd like everyone else to do the same. Those who've stepped into the world of Suikoden should have no problem spilling themselves. Suikoden's just too good to keep bottled up inside. Go ahead, yell out how Viktor is so damn cool!

Edge is teh coolness!

all these years i've disregarded the suikoden series and never paid any attention to it. now i've played and completely beaten S3 and i want more! i'm going to be ordering S1 and S2 from the internet this summer when i get a job. i cant wait to play them. i only wish i would've picked up on the series earlier, but now i must start from the beginning and make up for the time i wasted not playing S1 and S2.

bow down to thee, Suikoden!!

It's a shame that Suikoden isn't as popular as FF. Ever since Suikoden III, I have been really interested in the series. Like DarkMaster, I wish that I had picked up on the series earlier. I just finished the secret POV in Suikoden III, and I must say, the entire game was great. I highly recommend it to any rpg fan.

You're not the only one. I wish I played Suikoden II in my PSX days.

You should look for Suikoden I and Suikoden II on the internet...although, half.com went from having 8 in stock to now only having 1 in stock that is 120$ US...I hope Konami re-releases them or something.

Yeah, I am sure Konami can somehow manage to port Suikoden I and II over to the GBA. It's true, some PS1 games such as Tales of Destiny can be ported over to the GBA. Just change the graphics a bit, format MP3's to MIDI's, and just fix a little issues and you're done.

Also, to get back on topic, I was kinda hoping to play as the Flame Champion...(The real one) I thought and hoped that once all 3 characters meet up, you'll play as the real Flame Champion as the main character.

I chose Hugo, and just beat the hard ass Water Dragon. Funny thing is I chose Chris' chapter 4 and I am playing as Geddoe to go help Franz and his hometown. Wierd...

I am using Hugo, Sgt. Joe, Edge, Jacqes, Queen, and Fubar for now. I don't know why I couldn't bring Chris' and Geddoe in my team while I was fighting the Water Dragon. Anyways, I am on level 52 and I've been playing for about 51 hours. So, how am I doing? Please add no spoilers.

You're doing fine. It took me like 3 tries to beat that water dragon.

And if they do re-release them it won't be on GBA. Becuase in Suikoden 2, you can upload Suikoden 1 data, and without memory cards, thats impossible. Same thing with Suikoden 3, you can upload Suikoden 2 data, and you won't be able to transfer a GBA file to a PS2.

I hope they re-release it on PS2, they can have both of the games on 1 disc.

And btw, Suikoden III won RPG of the Year on PS2 at gamespot.com... From GameSpot:

Suikoden III emerged as one of the biggest, best surprises of the PlayStation 2 fall lineup, giving role-playing fans starving for a suitably outstanding follow-up to last year's Final Fantasy X something to really sink their teeth into. While Suikoden III doesn't have quite the same broad appeal as last year's best PS2 role-playing game, it does have a long, involved quest, a great story, and tremendous depth, making it the obvious choice for this category. Even amid competition from higher-profile games like Kingdom Hearts, Suikoden III still stands tall, and it's one of the most advanced, most polished examples of console role-playing to date.
The narrative of Suikoden III unfolds from three different perspectives, giving the player a unique and epic view of a conflict taking place in an original, intriguing fantasy world. Yet the three main protagonists are only a small part of the huge cast of characters available--in fact, 108 playable characters are featured in the game, and each has his or her own unique skills, personality, and motivations.

Suikoden III is a conventional role-playing game in some ways, with the sorts of random battles and plot elements that are fairly typical of the genre. Yet fans of this style of gaming know full well that what separates the best role-playing games from the rest lies in the execution, the storytelling, and the sense of style, and it's in these crucial respects that Suikoden III excels. Fans of console role-playing would be doing themselves a great favor by checking this game out.

Yeah, Suikoden III deserved it. Kingdom Hearts comes very close. Also, how long do I have to beating the game...? I am playing as Hugo my Flame Champion, and currently lost the True Water and Lightning runes from that damn Luc.

Man, I hope I go to Crystal Valley. Wait, don't tell me anything!!!!

It took me 62 hours to do everything. Well almost everything, except collect all recipes, medal sets, etc. But I did get all 108 stars (something very nice happens if you get all of them). And I barely played any minigames (even though there isn't that many). And also, as you know, there are 3 different ways to play the final 2 chapters of the game, so that's even more re-play value.

By the way, after you're done losing the runes, you go back to Lake Castle. This is your final chance to collect any remaining stars (you only need 104, the other 4 will join automatically later) I just thought I should warn you. So if you don't have 102 stars yet (the other 2 join at the HQ, then 4 more later), do so now. It is highly recommended. You should use a FAQ from GameFAQs.

Damn! I am at the Ceremonial place. I just beat that huge War Battle. I have to collect the 4 True Runes. I am playing as Geddoe and just lost to Yuber. (he's hard) Anyways, I want to beat the game first without the 108 stars in case it'll be a different ending. (will it?)

Don't tell me what happens when you get all 108 but just tell me if it's a secret ending. Should I keep going or should I go back and collect them?

Also, am I on the final chapter? If so, how do you play the different ways of the 2 final chapters?

1. Collecting the 108 stars doesnt affect the ending I don't think...if I told you what it did, you'd piss your pants and wished that you had collected them. (Not an ending...)

2. I'm not sure if you can collect all the stars now, I read a FAQ that said you had to do it before heading into the headquarters to meet with Sasari and Dios, so I made sure I got them all before that point (except for the last 6, but I'm pretty sure you know who those stars are...although you can't use 4 of them.........)

3. Yes, you're at the end of chapter 5.

4. SPOILER WARNING for people who haven't got to chapter 4 yet on Suikoden 3:

--------
Remember when you got to choose who would be the FC's successor? Well, depending on who you pick (Hugo, Geddoe, or Chris), the stuff you do in chapters 4 and 5 change a little, and there is different dialogue (obviously), etc. If you want to see everything, you'll need to play through the game 3 times, choosing a different successor each time. You picked Hugo, I picked Geddoe, the dialogue that we each saw was slightly different, and I read that Hugo has more mileage in the final 2 chapters, and Chris has the least.

I guess that answers all your questions. If you want to know about the last 2 POVs, just tell me.

So do I have 2 more chapters left..?

Am I about to beat the game?

Also, thanks for everything, man. I owe you. I will replay the game somehow.

You are almost at the end of the game, only a few battles left. And as for the last 2 point of views, one of them is rather stupid. You just need to find a certain character. It's more of a sidequest than anything else (and the stuff you do in that "sidequest" is kinda dumb). I won't tell you what the last point of view is, unless you really want to know.

Nah, I'll find out on my own. Besides, you helped me enough. Thanks.

Now I feel like getting the 108 stars. Damn, I really want to know what happens. But don't worry, I'll find out after replaying the game.

Oh, and one last thing, are there any hard secret bosses like the "Weapons" in the FF series? I want a really big challenge.

No. The hardest you'll get is the water dragon. Although after Yuber there will be another tough fight (if you fight it the hard way). And a little tip, if you want fast money, go to North Cavern, Mountain Path and Flm Champ hideaway to fight those bosses that appear onscreen (like the 2 headed snake on the mountain path).
