Heads Up!: CBS Will Report On Violence In Video Games In A Few Mins...
I'm not sure if everyone will be able to see it, but if you're on the estern side, you should keep your eyes peeled for a report coming up in a few mins. On CBS(channel 2 in NY)
Their preview showed footage of Vice City(among other games).
Be sure to tune in if you can!

Just saw it. It was kind of lame. But at least I now know what congressmen/big people are trying to do. Me personally, I want the sale of Video Games restricted ALOT more if you are under 17 and trying to buy something Rated M. The Target in my town doesnt even care about age! My half-brother walked in their when he was 13 and bought a CD that said PARENTAL ADVISORY. He didn't even clearly look 17 o r 16 or whatever the age is. It's also to blame for stupid parents buying GTA:VC for little billy who is only 8 or 9 (or just very young/young).

don't worry.. it's over now..
I recorded the report.. I'll type out as much as I can later.
Anyway, the congressional media agency(or whoever) gave the videogame industry it's lowest grade ever... "F"
Lots of interesting comments were made as well.
We'll have this debate later...

NBC is about to talk about it in a little while too... I gotta see it so I can have a good laugh...
I hate people complaining and blaming the entertainment industry for crap...
Although I'm not against maybe making a 'better' ratings system... or at least enforcing it more like movies and such... If it'll get people to shut up (which it probably wouldn't)...

God, those guys know no limits. I bet this was all Acclaim's fault, and "BMX XXX". If it wasn't for that game, we wouldn't have to put up with all this stereotypical crap. That game is really hard to get regardless... you'd have to get it like a pack of smokes.
I can't believe they're getting upset over a handful of games out of all of the thousands of games there are out there. I want to punch someone right now.

umm... it's more about violence... GTA:VC, Mortal Kombat: Dark Alliance, and what I think is Halo... those are like the only games NBC showed...
And like the lady said... "Less than 50% of parents actually use the ratings system"... now who's fault is that?
"Videogames aren't just child's play anymore... The average gamer? 28..." And yet dumb politicians and crap act like it's kids stuff and they're like "KIDS AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYING THIS!"... If a parent doesn't care if the kid plays it or not, that's their decision, if a parent doesn't pay enough attention, that's their fault, if a parent looks at the ratings and still buys it, they either don't care or they're stupid...
The only thing the videogame industry or retailers could do is enforce the ratings... Should they have to tone it down? No... The biggest problem is the parents, IMO... *shrugs*

The gaming industry isn't bad, the uncontrolable customers and retailers are, as Jonbo said. GTA:VC is clearly rated M for Mature, it says on the box, it says on the commercial, it says on mag ads, etc. It's up to the government(s) to start cracking down on who gets to buy what. It's also up to the parent's of these kids to control what they're seeing/playing.
The bottom line is: retailers should only sell Mature rated games for those over 17, and parent's should aks the retailers whats for mature audiences and whats not. My little cousin rents CFBD on N64 all the time, and his Mom doesn't even know the content of the game. Which is sad, really.

Jus to give an idea.... a 7 year old could walk into a local video game store round here and rent CBFD or Gta:vc or whatever he wants... i dont really think there should be parental advisorys on video games...
You didnt really follow them when you were like 8 did you?

Back when I was 8(which is about 9 years-10 years ago), the most "violent" game out there was possibly Mortal Kombat Acclaim starting the rating systems and look what has happened lately coincidence?

Heh, I've been playing Mature games since I was about 9 and it hasn't affected me...yet.
Anyway, I hate it when parents blame the industry because they're complete morons that can't read the "M" sign on the box. I think a possible solution would be to merge the Movie rating system and the videogame one.
