Do any of your games have a small notch of plastic missing on the right hand side of the bottom of the box? I noticed that both ED and SMS have this, but no other games do? What's the purpose? I don't think nintendo could be saving more than 1.50$ on plastic for the entire production run of a game by taking out the extra gram or two of material there. Surely there must be some reason for this?

Ehm... yeah, I noticed this on my AC box too. I don't think it's a money-saver, but more like a feature... something to do with.. uh... locking or something. I think. Yeah, probably locking.

It's suppose to be some sort of locking mechanism.

I heard it's to prevent... well, more like deter rather... people form taking the disk out of the pakages.

I believe it was said that major retailers have some kind of special that fits in there, or that they ship with a rod in place or something. I don't know how it works or if it's even put to use, because I'm pretty sure the plastic the box comes in, covers everything including the hole. That why I can't be too certain. (Can someone confirm if the plastic does in fact cover teh hole? I can't remember for sure)

Anyway, looking at the design of those particular cases, it's most definitely to keep the box from opening. I even placed a pencil in a one day to try for myself. If that story about a special rod is true, I wonder how it actually works. I mean, if you can just take it right out, what's the point? Perhaps it locks into place and you'll have to damage the box in order to get the disk. Not much people would want to buy it from the criminal in without the box. Apparently, the newer games have the hole. Launch game and other first-wave of games didn't.

At the very least, it can be used as a good way for the owner to "lock" the game away from a young child. To protect the disc from their mischievous hands!
You can place something in it(just be sure you can get it out). They wouldn't be able to open it!
