Default GameCube Overtakes Xbox in US?

Quote:
Well, not in total sales I imagine, but GameSpyDaily is reporting:

"Save the release of Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion, the Metroid series hasn’t been in the spotlight much over the last few years. With the series return to the spotlight a few weeks ago, Nintendo of America announced extremely positive results for the series, specifically Metroid Prime earlier today. According to Nintendo, Metroid Prime sold a quarter of a million copies during its first week available for GameCube, figures that pass sales of the Xbox Live Starter Kit by 50 percent in retain outlets. This, combined with the recent release of Resident Evil Zero, Nintendo continues, has around half a million teen and older gamers playing the GameCube games by the end of the Thanksgiving weekend.
The news on the Nintendo front continues to shine today as Nintendo also announced that the positive results of Metroid Prime and other titles have pushed GameCube into second place in terms of hardware for the month of November. Furthermore, on the Game Boy Advance side of things, Nintendo reports that sales of Metroid Fusion exceeded 100,000 units during the same aforementioned period of time."

Well It seems like a good week for Gamecube all round well apart from Europe. But is this really the good Gamecube fans have been looking for with no actual console numbers being stated by Nintendo is this just another Mario taking sales a 1000 or so unit above Xbox for a week or so, Or is this really a turning point in the war?

Well...

If games such as Splinter Cell, Unreal Championship, and MechAssault don't sell well for the Xbox. The GameCube could in fact take over sales in the US in my opinion.

Amen.

In fact, hasn't it always been in the lead?

That's really not fair. You can't compare sales of a game (like Metroid Prime) to sales of a service (like Xbox Live). It's just meaningless. Try comparing PSO sales to MechAssault sales, and you'll have something worthwhile.

But then again, this comes from Nintendo's PR department, so we shouldn't pay any attention to it anyway.

Does anyone know how Splinter Cell has been doing?

I think Splinter Cell has sold really well it had over 1.1 million pre-orders for it world wide two weeks before it came out but i have yet to see any real sales numbers for it as of yet.

Unfair comparison cause SC is also released in EU. So that could almost double the sales.

first off no one said it was a comparison in the first place and you could always just wait till US only numbers come out which would be a ok comparison (well kind of it's only a 3rd party game)

Ok Angrist times up well kind of here’s the first real numbers I have seen MP and SC sells in the US.

GCN METROID PRIME Nintendo GCN 363,389
XBX T.CLANCY'S SPLINTER Ubi Soft XBX 243,879

As you can see Metroid did do much better the SC but I still think SC did really well for a 3rd party game. Seeing as it was up against one of the all time classics.

Also good news for all you Nintendo fans as Sale of the Gamecube Console stayed high GC 468,000 also the same number given to Xbox.

How right those numbers are is any ones guess!
