Default 2002, best year for games since 1998?

When I place my faith in the church of gaming, one of my core beliefs was that 1998 was the best year for games ever. I'm not a platform fanboy, I'm a 1998 fanboy. Metal Gear Solid, OoT, Rouge Squadron, Hot Shots Golf, F Zero X, Gran Turismo, FFT, Xenogears, Banjo Kazooie,Tekken 3, Crash warped (two titles that may be laughed at now,but were very respected at the time and still hold gameplay wise. There were tons of others too but that should give you a good Idea of what was going on at the time.

This year is fantastic and I think It may nudge out 98 whne it's all said and done. Eternal Darkness, Gran Theft Auto Vice City, SMS, SMB2, SFA, MP, MF, CHoD, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Splinter Cell, virtua figher 4, Hot Shots Golf 3, Socom, Gun Valkyrie, mech [s]commander[/s] assault, unreal tournament. There are so many others and in volume 02 has a huge advantage in that it has 3 viable platforms vs 2 for 98.

What do you think 2002 or 1998 or even another year?

One thing is for certian, I think we can all thank the gaming gods that 2002 is going to be one of the best, if not the best gaming year ever.

I can't imagine any previous year beating out 2002

1998 had two games that flipped the whole industry... 2002 has yet to show this.

I think 2001 is better than both:

Grand Thieft Auto 3 (Ps2)
Halo (Xbox)
Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64)
Pokemon Crystal (GBC)
Gran Turismo 3 (Ps2)
Metal Gear Solid 2 (Ps2)
Devil May Cry (Ps2)
Twisted Metal Black (Ps2)
Final Fantasy X (Ps2)
Jak and Daxter (Ps2)
SSX Tricky (Multi)
NBA Street (Ps2 only this year)
Tony Hawk 3 (Multi)
Dead or alive 3 (Xbox)
Smash Brothers Melee (GCN)
Star Wars RS2:RL (GCN)
and a lot more but I'm tired of typing this list

I'd say it's even between 1998 and 2002, although I still feel 1998 was slightly better, but 2001? That was one of the worst years for games within living memorey. Tony Hawk 3? SSX Tricky? Final Fantasy X? Grand Theft Auto 3? What about Rez, Ico, Mario Kart Super Circuit and Advance Wars?

*looks at nintendo titles listed*

*shrugs*

Personally, I don't care for Gameboy Advanced. It has yet to have a killer app that I would feel comfortable enough to list.

Advance Wars not a killer app? Well, in that respect you might as well not call Halo a killer app.

2001 was awesome, but i think 2002 will rule. i find myself buying way more games in 2002 than i did in 2001, maybe because there are more better games, or maybe its because i got a job now.......
