Id is considering putting Doom III on GCN.
Gamespot has a video interview with Id Software's CEO (not sure if you need an account to see it).
He talks a little about Doom III on Xbox. He basically says the Xbox is a no-brainer, because of it's architectural similarities with Doom III's target PC. He said he doesn't think the PS2 will be able to pull it off the way the game deserves, but it hasn't been ruled out, and of Gamecube he says (paraphrase) "there is some potential there, but there are a few technical questions we need to answer".
So nothing is set in stone, and he will be concentrating on making the Xbox version IF ever the game comes to the Cube.

Awesome, thanks for the news. I guess this'll be the 'Cube's big technical trial.

Isn't the Xbox the only one that was capable of handling Doom III, other than PC? Unless they size it down for GCn...

To be fair, they are sizeing down the resolution for the Xbox version, and a few other things. But I would guess if they ported Doom to the GameCube the resolution would have to be lowered and more things would have to be changed.

Hmm... I'm not sure if it will sell enough on the Cube. It would do something about N's kiddy image though, so it would be cool.

Nintendo fans seem to love FPS's, they usually sell well on Nintendo systems. RE sold well on GC and I don't see why Doom wouldn't sell well either. After all, it's name alone could sell the game, much like the RE name.

RE is in the third person. But I still understand what you're saying. All the best selling FPS on consoles have been on Nintendo systems (except for Halo).
IF the GC was to be considered as the platform next to the Xbox for Doom 3, it would have to be a very long process in rewriting the code just for the Gc, as it is the only way the game would be able to take advantage of the fast, but limited RAM. In other words, it will take longer to optimise the game for the Gc, and bring it to a near enough, if not around the same level of the Xbox version.
So at the end of the day, Id may think it would cost too much money and take too much time to 'port' the game over to the cube, though like Notorious stated, the game might sell by the bucket load and hence make money.
Just don't hold your breath!
I'll be buying this for my PC no matter what console it comes out on.

Well, I'll have Doom # for the PC, and if az GCN version comes out, I'll ahve the GCN version as well, the architecture is completly different as mentioned beforee, so the "port" will take some time, the XBox is really a "poor-mzans PC" when It comes to system-specs (Intel P3, Nvidia Graphcis card, this is basically a dumbed down version of my Comp), while the GCN is much mre like a Mac, and much more "exclusive" in terms of hardware design.
In short, if we see aGCN version it'll have some definite changes,a dn proabably a "gore setting" because of the anture of the game.

Cyrax, it looks like you were in a hurry when writing that post. I don't mean to offend but, how did you make that many mistakes? I haven't seen you make even 1 mistake before.
Back on topic, I have a feeling D3 will be a big dissapointment. It may be a good game, but it will be less than expectations (like Mario Kart 64).
I hope I'm mistaken, though. Because I'll be buying a new PC next summer. And I will buy D3.

I have no idea why many people(not pointing fingers at anyone here, but in general) treats Doom 3 as a game that requires performance so immense that it's way out of Xbox or GameCube's league(putting resolution aside).
We are still very early in the consoles life, and developers are pretty much still scratching the surface of their potential. Developers still have yet to bring those consoles to their knees, and even when that happens, they'll continue to squeeze every drop of power out of them by employing neat tricks and writing unique, more efficient code.
Inevitably, there will be games on both those systems that are more technically demanding than Doom 3...although, whether they look better or not may depend on if they use similar techniques as id's engine-- simulating incredibly complex geometry through the use of textures("polybumps")
PS: That's why I'm eager to see Factor 5's next engine/game. Their first GC game(Rogue Leader) threw around much of the graphical features *most* developers are only NOW implenting in their games(per-pixel lighting, self-shadowing, pixel shaders, 5+ simultaneous textures, etc). Certainly, they are watching how the competition raises the bar each time, and will also naturally set out to make RL look like a complete joke . I'm anxious to witness the results their "second day out" with the NGC.
