Best Speaker system.

Hey guys, I'm gonna be getting some kick ass sound system soon and i was wonding what everyone thinks. I'm thinking of getting this one:

Bose's best speaker system and really is awesome, but i'm wonding if you guys/girls could give me some other options which may be better. I'm not really sure what this supports but it has Videostage 5.

That's cool, but can it still process Prologic II? Or whatever else?

Pretty sure Gekko will have a lot to say, and i really hope he does.

Please help me out here guys/girls. I can't find any sites that compare home theater sound systems either.

JBL and BOSE are top speakers.

I got JBL. Pioneer amp 120x5 rms!

It's damn good for my room. The whole room shakes from the sub

See, this is like a weird combo thing, and I doubt you'll like it in the end. From what I can tell about hooking it all up, they try to make it all really easy and whatever, and you basically get the sound exported from your TV into the reciever, then into the speakers.

I love the little cube guys, that's why I have a set myself, but I strongly suggest you do home theater the old fashion way, speakers, and a reciever.

Why I did this was simple, do you see any optical inputs in that thing? I don't. So don't expect to get digital sond signals, like Dolby Digital or DTS. And for $3500, let's just say I think my $2100 purchase is a lot better than that.

Still want the cube speakers setup, here's the best one they sell: http://www.bose.com/home_audio/ht_speakers/am15/ . I own those, and love them. Currently using the ghetto style setup, cause I don't feel like ordering my wall mounts, which will run you another $100. Also has a powered sub, which is far from weak. In fact, I wish you could turn it down more, cause A lot of times I'm stuck turning it off at night

Ok, for recievers, get one that suits your needs. For example, I have an HDTV, and I connect 3 devices using component video to it. While it's extremely hard to find a reciever with 3, i did find ones with 2 inputs and 1 output. Perfectly fine, because I can just disconnect Xbox and hook up my DVD player when I want to watch a movie. Then I also had to get one with the correct number of S-video, and optical inputs and everything. Seriously, take some time selecting a reciever. Make sure you go view it in the store, look at all the inputs, and make sure you can connect everything you need.

As for the features of the reciever, the more features the higher the price. The one I use is a Sony 6.1 channel reciever with DD EX, DTS, and PLII support. Of course, I only use 5 speakers, I needed it for the extra S-video and optical input. Cost me like $500 I think. Your reciever is what decodes the signal and outputs it to the speakers, so make sure you get one that supports everything you want. Pro Logic II, DTS, and Dolby Digtal are the most common formats that you'll see today, but I don't know exactly what you're looking for. Other formats I know of are Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, Pro Logic I, THX Surround EX, THX Ultra, and THX Ultra 2. I can't explain the differences in all of them, you'll have to look it up. I think Dolby Digital EX is for 6 channel setups, not positive.

Anyway, the THX ones are hella-expensive. And then you still need THX certified speakers to make Lucas happy.

It all boils down to how much money you want to spend on your system. Mine cost me a little over $2000, and it sounds great. But I know a lot of audiophiles who will spend close to $15,000 for their setup.

Now back to a summary:

Bose cubes are sweet, but I would listen and make sure you like them. If you do want them, get the speakers and then buy a reciever seperatly. You will thank yourself in the end, not to mention it's cheaper than that. I got a 6 channel speaker, Bose's best cube speakers, and the optical cords (pricey if you get monster) for like $2100. I can buy Bose's center speaker (considering it), and have a 6 channel setup for $180 more, and I'm still less than a thousand under that cost. Hell, you could get a 27" Samsung HDTV for that money you save.

Same here man. And I don't even install or buy anything this new and expensive... The only thing I have is my 300 dollar boom box, which is quite amazing, IMO.

I just need to buy a new TV and hook them up together to get ultimate sound for my video games... Yes....

the most expensife electronic thing that i bought on my own was my monitor...which was a little over $400...but i ain't buying anything more expensive then that...i rather spend my money on my GF...i think

Hahahahaha Bose is the most overpriced crap on the market IMO... at least the Hi-Fi market. Ive listened to some of their top of the line stuff and it doesnt sound much better then a decent mini system. I have a B&W 600 series set up with mostly mark levinson components. I have a new Yamaha reciever with all the codecs I could really want. Not exaclty the ultra good stuff but it gets the job done pretty well
