Aliens versus Predator is a science fiction first-person shooter computer game developed by Rebellion Developments and published by Fox Interactive for PC and Apple Macintosh computers in 1999.
Fox Interactive also did No One Lives Forever, one of my all time favorite games ever.
The best game in the series was by far Aliens versus Predator 2, the sequel to Aliens versus Predator.
Aliens versus Predator 2 is a science fiction first-person shooter computer game developed by Monolith Productions. It was published by Sierra Entertainment, and released through Fox Interactive for PC and Apple Macintosh computers in 2001. It is a sequel to Aliens versus Predator (1999); both games are based on the characters of the Alien and Predator media franchises as well as the Alien vs. Predator crossover series.
This new game...Aliens: Colonial Marines...it looks kind of like AvP2. Although it is misses the totally freaktastic and to-the-movie radar. Check this shit out:
Let me tell you, not only is this one of the best horror FPS games ever made....the "beep," "beep," "beep," you get on the radar is not only identical to the movie...but scary as fuck. Each beep conditions you and lets you now about the waiting horror behind a door or in the next room. Or running your way soon.
The last few AvP games have been absolute shit. Like, I wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot poll. This new Colonial Marines game actually looks like it has promise. And so I dug into the Wiki, and sure enough:
Quote:
A previous game titled Aliens: Colonial Marines was developed by Check Six Games and was to be published by Fox Interactive and Electronic Arts for the PlayStation 2 in 2001, but was cancelled before its release. A more traditional first-person shooter, it shared the same subject matter and setting as the upcoming Gearbox-developed game. Its story was to be set between the events of Aliens and Alien 3, concerning a rescue team of Colonial Marines searching for the Sulaco. Despite the similarities in gameplay and story, however, Gearbox has claimed that their upcoming game is unrelated to this early version.
On December 11, 2006, Sega announced they had purchased the electronic rights to the Alien franchise from 20th Century Fox. On December 15, Gearbox Software and Sega announced that they were working on a completely new game based on the franchise. In February 2008 the game's title was officially announced as Aliens: Colonial Marines and it was featured as the cover story of Game Informer magazine.
The development team took great pains to recreate the vehicles and settings of the films by using original set designs to recreate the exterior and interior of the Sulaco and LV-426. Concept artist Syd Mead, who had worked on Aliens, was hired to design areas of the Sulaco that did not appear in the film but would be used in the game.
Despite the claims that this game is different, it sounds like maybe some of it was picked up from Fox Interactive? I hope so, because Alien versus Predator 2 was far and away one of the most engaging and exciting horror-FPS games I have ever played. True to the movies and a real display of what the genre can offer.
I tried several times to get into AvP 2, but it didn't work. All the sounds were wrong, the Aliens were ugly and there was no story to suck me in.
But AvP 1... Wow. That was just so amazing. Did any of you play the demo of that? It's one of the hardest things I've ever played (and it's even harder than the hardest mode in the normal game). There are so many Aliens spawning all around you, getting to the end of the level is almost impossible. But I did it.

Re: Aliens: Colonial Marines
I have high hopes for this game, and I think I saw somewhere that there will be co-op, but I think id want to play through alone first for that extra "I am not going in that room alone, you cant make me!" feeling.
Interestingly, they didn't announce a Wii U date yet. I wonder if that's because Nintendo doesn't allow the announcement of release dates, or because it's going to launch sooner/later on Wii U.
