Default More on Rare Rumor

This reportedly came from Shane at Gamespot:

Shane
GameSpot

Well, I'll let you know as much as I do. Nintendo's stance on why Rare's games from last year aren't being shown is that they won't be released before the end of the year and they say they don't want to draw attention away from the games that will be for sale before next year's show. I thought this was a big line of bull until the developer's roundtable with Shigeru Miyamoto today. He was asked after the roundtable why Mario Kart wasn't shown and he basically replied with the same answer (it won't be released before next year's E3). He also stated that showing one screenshot of the game would give away what they're planning to do with the franchise. Take that for what it's worth.

But at the same time, I have had it confirmed by two sources in the past 24 hours that Rare is going multiplatform and to expect an announcement in the next day or two. Granted, it's not a definite until it happens, but if I were to tell you who told me this information today I think you'd assume it's a done deal. Perhaps when/if an announcement is made I'll be able to share where my information is coming from. But until then I can tell you that Rare is going multiplatform or prominent people in this industry are lying to me. It's one or the other. This is all I can tell you.

As far as what to expect from Nintendo for the next two days. Don't worry. While we basically covered Nintendo's entire lineup today, there are plenty of other GameCube games to cover and lots of other things that we'll be doing to take care of you. If you don't want to ruin the E3 experience in one day, simply don't read the stories until you're good and ready. But I feel it was our responsibility to get you the info as quickly as possible and I hope you're all happy with what we managed to publish today. Good night all!

UH OH! Not good news for Nintendo if this is true. And this is a RUMOR... a RUMOR so how bout no one flames me for it.

*waits fro Ric to flame him*

Heh heh.

On topic..

Wow, this doesn't look good for Nintendo.

Oh well. If it happens, then

Well you can believe that if you want however I read a press release in the latest issue of NGC Magazine here in the UK which said this:

Rumours reached fever pitch this month regarding the alleged acquisition of GoldenEye developers Rareware by Activision. The news was so wide spread and reportedly concrete that Tim (the magazine editor) ended up being interviewed by several trade newspapers on the matter.

But just as we suspected , the news was misleading tosh - we contacted Rare to get an official comment and they told us in no uncertain tearms that the deal with activision or any other rumours about them going third party was a load of old "cobblers".

This is pretty concrete confirmation since a former employee of the magazine now works for Rareware. The magazine got exclusive looks at Perfect Dark and the face mapping utility during development of the game.

I have also read this report elsewhere from different people who recieved the same response. I am sure C.H can confirm this for me aswell.

No need for C.H to confirm this, I can.

I have the magazine too. And I would believe it over Gamespot any day. They are and have been reliable.

It is from Gamespot, so true, it may be complete crap. But it just seems like there have been a lot of rumors coming from reliable sources (Non-Nintendo related) that are saying that this is pretty much a done deal. Makes you wonder. But still, I'll believe it when I see it, I just think there is a good chance I'll see it.

Even though Psycho beat me to it, yes i have read the magazine that reported contacting rare on the issue. The magazine happens to be probably the best Nintendo only magazine avalible in europe. Definetly reliable when it comes to reviews and news.

But why quote them, after the Nintendo pre-show they held a Q&A session. Where (not suprisingly) the question came up:

After their pre-show conference today, Nintendo held a short Q&A session with members of the gaming press, and naturally, one of the questions to arise was whether or not software powerhouse Rare would be going multiplatform. Fortunately for Nintendo fans, reports from the session have confirmed that Rare will be staying Nintendo-exclusive.

Ah, what a pun!

I was talking about this with Stu... doesn't anyone find it odd Rare only showed one game at E3? I mean they have countless others in development and they would probably be able to at least showcase videos, but they didn't. Anyone have a reasonable explanation?

what to think... ?

I just know that game franchises like PD, SF, Kameo, DK and JFG can only be released on Nintendo platforms. So.... IF Rare goes mp, the best games will stay on the GameCube, plus the other games probably.

But I'm still hoping they're staying a 2nd party.

I was gonna say basically the same exact thing. Why has Rare only showed one game? I don't think a company as big as Rare is gonna release only one game between now and E3 of next year. But hopefully these rumors are damn false. But I can understand it is for the money only

Well, if Rareware isn't actually going multi-platform, I wouldn't be surprised at all if none of their other games—Kameo, Sabrewulf, Donkey Kong Racing etc.—actually don't arrive until next E3. I mean look at the stretch of time between Conker's Bad Fur Day and Star Fox Adventures. Granted, there was a platform switch in between there, but Rareware is fully capable of delaying to the point where only one game is released in a year. They haven't even managed to put out a GBA game, for crying out loud.

I think it's reasonable not to show a game if you don't think it will come out before next year's E3. It more or less follows the pattern that Nintendo goes by at E3. In any case, if I were a Rareware and I were actually going multi-platform, I wouldn't start not showing my Nintendo games at E3. I want buzz, after all.

Bah, it's all a mess. I've got other things to worry about.

*hops into his trash can to read more E3 news*

So nintendo pretty much denies it all stateing they will be a nintendo second party next year which almost states for this generation at least (I dont know about you but I thinks its better to go third party in between generations like sega). But, two "sources" have "confirmed" a multiplatform...hmmmm...

As for Rare, if they do they do, if they dont they dont. Big whoop. Not like you wont be able to play thier games either way.
