Ok, I'll go straight to the point on this thread, no lengthy introduction. Which videogames have had the best music that has stayed on your head even years after the game's been made and you already finished it. You just go back into thinking about the soundtrack and go like... man that soundtrack rocked!
I'll avoid the old school ones like Mario and Zelda. Here's my list:
Phantasy Star Online Ep 1&2 I
The game was great in its own, but the soundtrack was the icing on the cake. It complimented the atmosphere perfectly and made every single area of the game memorable.
Resident Evil 2
The same as before but the songs on this one had the ability to be soothing and scary at the same time. You knew the calm music with the piano was just deceiving, there was going to be something ahead, a breaking window, a morgue, a horde of zombies right past the next door or a tyrant spawning at random times after you (I'm looking at you, MR X) to catch you off-guard and scare the living crap out of you.
Guild War: Prophecies
Prophecies is the first guild wars campaign. It had the best intro music and all around the music was fitting for every area of the game. The only song I didn't like was the one for the ice area (forgot the name atm) where it was like three violins playing some extremely relaxing song that sounded like a lullaby. The rest of the sound track was great for a fantasy world.
Almost making the list are: Perfect Dark, Left 4 Dead and The Silent HIll Series. SH has some great songs here and there but there's a lot of weird noises that they want to call songs and they're just for creepic atmospheric purposes. But I refuse to call the music.
Which are yours?

Halo. The music in that game is iconic and I believe elevated the game to a different level.
Amen. Halo's soundtrack....EPIC.
The two N64 Zelda games had amazing music. This is my favorite of the bunch, from Majora's Mask, which I think went well above and beyond for creating a game with atmospheric and exciting music:
It's subtle...rhythmic, and has a beautiful harmony thrown in there.

I know I'm getting rambley here with my 3rd post in a row, but I just want to say Halo has some of the best "acoustics" in a game. When you play Halo's multiplayer...the sound is phenomenal, and it really sounds like you are in an open environment. The echoes and explosions sound absolutely stunning. I have no idea how the game designers tweak the sounds to work that way, but a lot of games have "sound" but Halo has "sound in an environment." Totally fucking awesome underrated part of the Halo experience that no one really talks about.

Re: Best Videogame Soundtracks
I'm just gonna cheat and say Smash Bros Brawl.
PRobably based on sheer quantity alone of iconic music from all major Nintendo franchises, not to mention from MGS, Sonic and Tetris.
But if wanted to be fair, either Halo (love the main theme) or Uncharted (once heard the song from across a Best Buy and knew someone was playing the game )
