Mayhem May Releases
I guess Moogle gave up on his other thread?
Anyhow, after what could only be considered a rough on the wallet first quarter, April was pretty calm with really 3 big releases, but it looks like May is set to pick it up again.
Let's go to the Scoreboard
Big Games These are those titles that have the name or the marketing or the hype.
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) May 23rd
The sequel to one of the highest rated and best-selling games of this generation. It features new power-ups like Rock Mario and Cloud Mario, and the return of an old-friend in Yoshi.
Alan Wake (360) May 11th
This game has been in development forever, but finally it seems to be ready to touch down in early May. Not really sure how to describe this game, which is one of the things that have most intrigued people about it.
The first 10 minutes, be careful may have spoilers.
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (PS3, 360, Wii) May 18th
This is a new installment in the long-running Prince of Persia series. It returns us to the Sands of Time era, which many people loved. This game will also get an additional bump for being based on the movies.
Those to me represent the three big cornerstones of the month. Not to say there aren't other games that look as impressive.
Red Dead Redemption (PS3/360) May 18th
GTA of the Old-West is the best way to describe it. Along with what seems like a more fleshed out multiplayer aspect.
Blur (PS3/360) May 25th
This is an awesome blend of Mario Kart and Burnout. Its fast, its chaotic, and its fun. It also features a level up system similar to MW so there's that.
Lost Planet 2 (PS3/360) May 11th
This sequel to one of the Xbox's premiere games looks to add a bit more of everything. From co-op play to Gears of War characters.
Finally, we come to games that have potential to be enjoyable/good. Skate 3 (PS3/360) May 11th
Sequel to a pretty stellar skateboarding franchise.
3D Dot Hero (PS3) May 11th
If you are a fan of the Legend of Zelda, you owe it to yourself to at least check out this game.
Split Second(Ps3/360) May 18th
Another take on the extreme arcade racer. This could turn out better than Blur or worse, but Blur has a beta so know what getting with that.
Trauma Team (Wii) May 18th
This is the spiritual sequel to the Trauma Center games. Well guess not so much spiritual, but it does add more types of operations/doctors to the mix.
Modnation Racers (PS3) May 25th
This is Sony's latest attempt at the kart racing genre with the addition of user generated content.
And finally, the big non-release of the month, Halo: Reach beta (X360) May 3rd
The sequel to one of the biggest gaming franchise going, let's you get an early sneak peek of what to expect with an all-new multiplayer beta. It features new modes, new loadouts and JETPACKS.
This post is a work in progress so shall be back with more.
Halo 3 has been one of the top online games since its release. You can't really deny its popularity. And you know what sucks? I have jury duty on May 3rd
On a different note, I just realized Galaxy completely fakes their shadows. While Mario moves his arms, the other shadows are just circles and doesn't actually follow the object. Also, in the second scene, the ground reflects Mario, but he doesn't have a shadow anymore. Meanwhile, the bullets still cast shadows. Just pointing it out...
