January 2010 NPD Thread. Spoiler alert: Wii sold a bunch.
So, the first month of this totally backwards year is in the books. This was easily the best January we've seen in a while, and it's only the beginning of an unusually huge group of Q1 games. Worth noting: Despite ranking second in the listing, Mass Effect 2 set the record for best January launch. Mass Effect 2. It released in January. That's crazy.
PlayStation 2 41.6K
PlayStation 3 276.9K
PSP 100.1K
Xbox 360 332.8K
Wii 465.8K
Nintendo DS 422.2K
1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii) - 656.7k
2. Mass Effect 2 (360) - 527.1k
3. Wii Fit Plus (Wii) - 555.7k
4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (360) - 326.7k
5. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) - 310.9k
6. Wii Sports Resort (Wii) - 297.6k
7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PS3) - 259k
8. Army of Two: The 40th Day (360) - 246.5k
9. Just Dance (Wii) - 191.9k
10. Darksiders (360) - 171.2k
11. Army of Two: The 40th Day (PS3)
12. Wii Play (Wii)
13. MAG (PS3)
14. Darksiders (PS3)
15. EA Sports Active (Wii)
16. Mario Kart DS (DS)
17. Bayonetta (360)
18. New Super Mario Bros. (DS)
19. Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (DS)
20. God of War I & II Collection
Discuss. Or else.

The Wii dominates the non-segmented video game market as usual.

Are you still upset?
Anyhow, it was an interesting month.
A note for Prof who said that Madworld would have performed better on the HD Twins. Bayonetta a very similar game with I think wider appeal (not black and white, a bit deeper gameplay, some variety) should marginally better on two consoles for its first month.
I'm a little disappointed, I wanted that game to do well.
And on the other end of the spectrum, No More Heroes 2 slid down even compared to the first one while Capcom Vs. did decent depending on who you ask.

No, I am a truly changed person.
I sold my Xbox 360 and bought a Wii.
Ever since I have been a happier person and less confrontational.

Still don't see why people like the Wii. But I suppose console sales, no matter which, are good for the gaming world as a whole.

I'd say that depends on which direction you would like to see the industry move in. People will follow the money, period... But then again, Wii isn't really direct competition with the other systems, so I doubt they'd follow suit next gen. We'll see!

I've tried to answer this with words time and time again, perhaps its time for a new strategy.
Take your pick.

Etc, etc, etc
As for The Game, I guess once you almost outsold the other two combined, you really don't consider them competition either, I still like em though.

True.. we'll see how those work out though. And we'll see if they're implemented into the base system come next generation.
At this point I wouldn't be shocked if it was. (The SIXAXIS controler has motion controls too, but nothing major.)
