Default Video Game Music: Sonic Intros

I don't want to jump on the poll bandwagon so shall be no polls in this thread, but thought it would be an interesting idea to look at video game themes/songs over time for a franchise.

The first one is intro music for Sonic games. Some things suffered from 2D to 3D for Sonic, but his intro music became 100x greater.

Sonic Boom

Sonic Adventure

Sonic Adventure 2

Sonic Heroes

Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic and the Secret Rings
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOIIGPv4uds

Sonic Unleashed
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvbHLuU6rVQ

Sonic and the Black Knight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzNpVuN2nJg

Which one of these awesome tracks is the most awesome of them all?

Mhmm... can't say I agree.

It might be nostalgia knocking on the door, but I think the original Sonic the Hedgehog intro for the Genesis is the best.

Not to knock these tunes though.

It's just that the early 90s MIDI synthetic, pop music that accompanied the original Sonic games is impossible to replace. It's part of the essence of the Sonic the Hedgehog.

It would be like trying to put edgy, Linkin Park-esque music in Mario games. It would just be out of place.

The Sonic franchise as a whole fell apart with its attempt at going 3D, music included.

Just my opinion.

I think I would've rather they took the music from the Genesis games and recreated them much akin to what Nintendo did when they took all the classic game songs and had a full orchestra play them for Smash Bros. Brawl.

It just sounds too animé-ish. Save it for a new Sonic cartoon series or something.

For what seems like a near-complete list of Sonic music, turn your sights toward this guy's channel:

Just for the record, I picked these songs for a reason.

A little addition will deal with actual in-game music. This is all title songs from the Sonic games.

Are you talking about the game themes or Sonic's theme?

Sonic's theme from SA/2 was pretty rad.

I know. But the Sonic intros suck. The 2D level themes are better

Hands down Sonic Boom.

As cheesy as it is, it's the only one of the posted songs that stands as a reminder as to why I liked Sonic when I was young.

As for the rest of them... I can understand what they've tried to do in changing with the times -- but it just falls flat. They lack personality and come across as generic and immemorable. Shame.

Angrist, that was amazing.

Edit: The 2D level themes are the bees knees.

But the original sonic intros are way better than the 3d hard rock infused garbage. But if I had to pick out of the choices BAB bosted, I would have to give it to Sonic Boom overall.

I know that this is just from Emerald Hill Zone, and not an intro, but it's still really awesome.
