Taking a history of Funk class right now and we spent a good week on Sly. Him and Jimi really revolutionized the history of MUSIC much more than I ever thought.
I love music classes because they allows help you discover the fantastic music sounds of the past. For example, I've listened to this version of Cold Sweat by James Brown AT LEAST 50 times on Youtube because it is SO much better than the recorded version. This was also video taken from the Concert he held a the Boston Garden the night of MLK's assassination. The mayor of Boston essentially did everything he could to have Brown perform that night due to his fear that rioting would ensue African Americans didn't stay at home to watch this Live Broadcast.

I took a history of rock class my sophomore year of high school, and Sly was one of the most important artists among the twenty week class, and still to this day I can recite things I learn about the man.
