Default Minnesota-style Pizza

Chicago and New York aside... does Minnesota really have their own pizza? I just found a restaurant in Seattle which prides itself as being the only "Minnesota-style pizzeria in Seattle." Come again? It sounded cool, since they always play Vikings and Twins games, and the staff is supposed to be trained to be "Minnesota nice"... just like me

Now I've had some good pizza during my life in Minnesota (Pizza Luce rocks), but we never had our own "style." But after reading about this restaurant, they consider thin-crust pizza cut into squares to be called Minnesota-style. I have had that quite a few places, and now that I think about it, never have seen it while living in CA or WA, but I don't believe it.

Have you poor people seriously been deprived of the amazing square-cut pizza? I don't believe it.

I've purchased square-shaped pizzas at the store before. DiGiorno is the brand.

I've eaten that style from Domino's I guess, but yeah, many local pizzerias don't have this so called "Minnesota style." I like thin crust pizza though and maybe I'll get some pizza when we go to Minneapolis this Fall.

Being from Minnesota myself, I am baffled by this as well. Thin, square pizza is so good

That kind of pizza has been available everywhere I've lived (Wisconsin, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey).

Nothing like California pizza though, mmm...

We have our own style pizza? Lol, news to me.

I do think that the thin crust square slices are more common in MN, but I wouldn't call it "MN style"....

Yes, that's it.

Oh, and Bond, California doesn't have its own style of pizza either.

I would call that square shaped style midwestern style or something, but I highly doubt it originates in Minnesota...

Semantics.

I wasn't aware that you could have your own pizza based on how you cut it.

I'm going to cut my pizza into Hexagons and call it KillerGremlin pizza.

It sounds like square cut New York style pizza. Also, Chicago style pizza rocks too. California style pizza is okay, but sometimes you don't want all that crap on your pizza and you just want good old fashioned cheese and pepperoni.

That's not to say that there aren't any rockin' pizza joints in Minnesota...and this is where the pizza debate gets annoying. I'm sure you can get a good slice of Chicago, New York or California style pizza in Minnesota. Maybe it will be slightly less authentic or delicious as going to the source, but it probably makes up for having to buy a plane ticket to New York, Chicago or Cali.

I'm pretty open to all pizza styles. When in Brooklyn, it's Grimaldi's or Di Fara.

So freaking good. Though I've also had some amazing deep dish in Chicago. Different, but both good. I'm closer to NY though, so NY style wins by default.

Sometimes they call our pancakes 'Dutch pizzas'. Probably because we sometimes throw everything on them. Pancake with tomato, cheese and mushrooms isn't unusual.

(Btw, I just found out because I wondered if there was a Dutch pizza.)
