Re: Fox News on Mass Effect Sex Debate
I was amazed at how insane the misinformation about Mass Effect is. The "sex" in the game is literally a naked upper back and a fade-out. An episode of 90210 has more skin than Mass Effect.
Goddamn uninformed retards.

Re: Fox News on Mass Effect Sex Debate
I hate these arguments. Sure a kid comes home alone and can pop in a game but whose saying he couldn't pop in a movie with sex in it as well?
Quite stupid

Re: Fox News on Mass Effect Sex Debate
Fox "News" has always had trouble with video games. Ironic that they would focus on sex this time, since they basically are a porn network.

Re: Fox News on Mass Effect Sex Debate
I'm actually fucking disgusted with the general public who are more worried about their kids seeing fake movie sex than they are with them seeing incredibly gratuitous fake violence.
I get people like that in my work all the time. Some woman complained that Shoot Em Up wasn't appropriate for her kid. I asked, "Because of everyone being killed?"
And she said "No, it had too much sex in it".
That just pisses me off.
At least sex in NATURAL for god sake. Murdering people is horrible yet parents are okay with their kids seeing it portrayed in movie constantly.
Can anybody explain this mentality to me?

Re: Fox News on Mass Effect Sex Debate
To be fair, killing is as natural as sex is. Give and take. It's unethical because of laws and such - but it's still a natural part of survival...at times.
But I agree with the whole "Yadda yadda, I don't want my kid seeing a fake tit, but he can watch people mangled on TV yadda blather" thing is wrong.

Because if the kid goes to jail, parents owe nothing.
If kid gets pregnant, or ends up with AIDS, family is still around to support forever.
I'm betting the parents would rather the kid just get life I prison so they can move on with their life.
Actually... my real guess would be sex is a bigger issue for parents than murder. Most parents will never have to live with a child murdering someone, but many have to deal with sex's variety of problems.

It still seems like such a strange skew of values to me though.

Re: Fox News on Mass Effect Sex Debate
Dylflon, I highly recommend the Documentary "This Film Is Not Yet Rated."
It's a highly enjoyable film that looks at the way the MPAA rates films with sex and nudity. America is the strangest country in the world, we have problems with 3 major things: alcohol, sex and guns. I don't understand it.

Re: Fox News on Mass Effect Sex Debate
My biggest frustration isn't that people are upset about nuduty and sex in video games, its people knowing what the fuck they are talking about. The whole "hot coffee" outrage was justified. This was hardcore pornography secretly hidden in a game to avoid an unfavorable rating. If I was a parent, and I thought my kid could handle the violence, I at least can look at the rating and make those decisions.
In Mass Effect's case, people are outraged at the report of sex being in a game and giving absolutely no context to it. In the descriptions that these "pundits" give of the sex scene, it becomes quite obvious they've never seen it and are knee jerk reacting to the mere association of sexuality in a game that it obviously intended for a mature audience on every level.
They should be publicly exposed for the ignorant opportunists they are.

Quoted for truth.
Honestly, if this shows anything, it's that video game companies should be spending money to educate the press about the steps they take to protect youth.
