Re: Call of Duty 4
I may or may not get.
Well, i do want to get it eventually just not right now.
The Circuit City deal is a steal though.
Buy this and receive Call of Duty 3 for free.

Re: Call of Duty 4
I'm considering it. I've been spending a lot of money lately, though. I may just decide to save up and keep buying Christmas gifts.

I hear it's a lot more polished than Halo 3. I might check it out.

Re: Call of Duty 4
I'll probably ask for the PC version for Christmas. Although I heard the single player campaign is painfully short...
I did enjoy the demo.

The game is surprisingly amazing. I'll rent it... for a while.

Re: Call of Duty 4
So I got this game, and it's quite possibly the best FPS on the generation. In fact, it is. It's simply amazing.
It's generally an all-out frag fest, but they got plenty of modes to make people like me happy. Hardcore mode turns off the HUD completely. No more radar, no grenade indicators, friendly fire is turned on, bullets do more damage, and you don't even have a crosshair. It's lovely, feels like Ghost Recon before that series tried to predict the future.
I played from Friday morning to Saturday night, only breaking to sleep. It's simply that good. Other great things:
All achievements are single player. No more joining a ranked Lone Wolves game in Halo and hearing "Do you guys want to do achievements?" Sure, BAM! ROCKETS BITCH! I love spoiling their fun In COD4, they need to do it all by themselves offline. It's amazingly peaceful online
They also have a TON of perks to unlock, and weapon upgrades. Some of them you unlock late, like get a knife kill an you likely have 15 under your belt by that point, but since completing the challenges give you a huge boost in experience, it's necessary. It gives you something to do, and sometimes gives you ideas you've never thought of. I love doing them, it's like having another 150 achievements.
The weapon upgrades are also different per weapon, so unless you want iron sights, you will be getting at least 25 kills with every weapon in the game to make them all usable. Getting 150 kills with it unlocks the ACOG, which has its uses. There's a ton of weapons for many different scenarios, and you can adjust the perks to fit your style of play.
Overall, it's easily the most balanced FPS I've ever encountered. Despite someone having extra health, being harder to kill, and dropping to the ground with a pistol when he dies, you ignore it. Why? Because you're carrying twice the frag grenades, have bullets that do extra damage and penetrate walls with more speed, allowing you to kill that guy who just ran behind the wall to hide.
11/10. Best FPS since Ghost Recon, the original.

Re: Call of Duty 4
I'm still hesitant to get this game. I briefly played the multiplayer beta a month ago and didn't really like it, but I think it may have been because I was playing against very highly ranked players and I had no idea what I was doing.
It's very tempting though - everyone seems to have only praise for this game.

Just because you suck doesn't mean you shouldn't play. I've never played a CoD game on a console before, yet I pull top 2 on every map. Usually first, sometimes with 20 kills above the 2nd place guy. I'm sure I piss guys like you off
CoD4 is all about reaction speed. Weapons help, sure, but the faster you can acquire a target, aim, and shoot, the better off you'll be. With the right weapon and accuracy, you should be able to win almost every head-to-head battle you go up against. Also, in many of the levels you will die after nearly every kill. Take down as many as possible, because little did you know you have 3 converging on your spot at any given second. In other words, kill the 2-3 with your primary weapon, when you run out of ammo, chase down the next guy, knife him, and shoot his buddy with a pistol. After that, you'll likely get smoked, but a 5:1 ratio is not bad.

Re: Call of Duty 4
got this game a week ago...absolutely incredible. the 105mm cannon level wowed me, and I just finished War Pig which was intense. I just started playing online and I suck, but I'm really enjoying it. like a 1st person SOCOM...
