Wheel of Time author dies
Robert Jordan, author of "The Wheel of Time" series, died yesterday. Here is a message from Dragonmount:
Quote:
"It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God’s timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.
Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.
Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We’ve all felt the love that you’ve been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.
Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.
My sincerest thanks.
Peace and Light be with each of you,
Wilson
Brother/Cousin

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn’t. I haven’t. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn’t exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God’s name.
Editor’s Note:
The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan’s family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates."

The site is currently down, probably too many hits. I liked his books and started rereading them since he was currently working on the final entry. This from wikipedia regarding the unfinished last novel:
Quote:
Before his death, Jordan stated "I'm getting out notes, so if the worst actually happens, someone could finish A Memory of Light and have it end the way I want it to end." The decision to posthumously complete the book has been left to his wife Harriet and Tor Books president Tom Doherty.

I kind of don't want them to finish the series just to stick to those nerds who love Wheel of Time just a little too much.

Wow. I guess that just seems really heartless to me. Just because you didn't enjoy the series as much as others, you wish them to be miserable that their 13 book series will never be finished.
I'm one of those Wheel of Time fans. I read all 12 books he released (including the prequel, A New Spring), and to know that the final book will never be released - that one of the worlds greatest fantasy writing minds is gone - is really aweful.
Rest in peace. I only met him once, and it's always been one of the foremost experiences in memory for me.

Re: Wheel of Time author dies
TML, they said he has written a draft for the ending, so somebody else will finish it for him.

It's true, he did. But there's still no guarantee of that, believe me I know. I've been reading his blog for the past year or two. He told a summary of the book to his cousin and wife a few weeks ago, plus all his notes and rough drafts are at their disposal. However, he himself said he didn't know if that would count for anything.
The best thing that can be said is that Harriet (his wife) was his editor, and so has an excellent grasp on all the (literally) hundreds of loose ends to tie up.

I was kidding, man.
Kidding in a really mean way.
I have friends who are really into it. It's not a bad series.
But yeah, it's a bummer the dude died before he could finish his stuff.

Re: Wheel of Time author dies
From what I've heard he was well in to the last book, and he made extensive notes and outlines just in case he himself wasn't able to finish it. Rumor has it his wife may finish it, since she is a writer herself and served as his editor.
In any case I'm certain the book will be published.
