NYC outraged at setting of GTA IV
http://www.nydailynews.com/entertain...at_city-4.html
Shares a nice little snickeroo with the Mexico/GRAW2 dealie. Quite funny considering all the violent movies and such filmed here. I'm looking forward to exploring my fair city through the eyes of Rockstar...can check out all the tourist spots I never managed to visit...and bump off some people along the way.

Re: NYC outraged at setting of GTA IV
I think they rather enjoy seeing this game come out. Take these quotes --
Setting Grand Theft Auto in the safest big city in America would be like setting Halo in Disneyland -- City Councilman Peter Vallone, chairman of the Council's Public Safety Committee
He noted that auto thefts have dropped 58% since Bloomberg took office, and so far this year New York City's murder rate is down 28%. -- About Jason Post, a spokesman for Mayor Bloomberg
I think they're eating up the chance to mime exactly what most voters probably want to hear and to throw out some statistical kudos to their city, without actually doing anything about the game. (If they are, the article doesn't mention it.)

Who IS this guy? This isn't the first GTA to be set in "Liberty City."

Re: NYC outraged at setting of GTA IV
Fun fact: a videogame may be set in a real location, but it cannot depict the destruction of any such location without permission from the owners. So for example, the Chrysler Building is there but you can't blow it up or anything. You can't even put bullet holes on its face.
So New York should actually feel pretty good because although GTA depicts a thinly veiled version of the city, it's going to be absolutely pristine.
