Default Superman :-(

I think they should have called it mediocre man. Sad Its a very goofy/funny kinda movie. The humor seems to miss its mark, the special effects were good, 'cept I had real problems with the young clark. His gumby stretch arm strong special effect model was... bad.

Somethings just didnt make a lot of sense. The audience really has to suspend it's belief on quite a few parts. I guess I just didn't like the directing.

Certainly not as good as Xmen or Spiderman.

I didn't like the fact that Superman didn't kick any ass. All this saving, and no ass kicking. In fact, Superman got his ass kicked. Like LAWL. And I really dislike the actor that plays the kid. He was a zombie. The acting wasn't too bad, but lots of suspension of disblief. And normally that's not a problem, but clocking in at 2 and 1/2 hours....I agree with most of the 2-star reviews. Ebert's, in praticular. But hey, there's the Spidey 3 trailer on BIG SCREEN. Totally worth it.

You mean aside from the flying, breathing in space, x-ray vision, invincibility, indestructable tights, ability to turn back time, heat vision and super breathing, there is something else to make me think none of this is possible?

Oh no!

I think, or at least imo, the hard thing to grasp is the stupidity of the characters in the movie. Superman's gone 5 years, kent's gone 5 years. Kent is 6'4", superman is 6'4". I mean, whatever, it's a comic. But it doesn't take sherlock to crack that one.

But somehow when Peter Parker goes missing and Spiderman shows up, and vica verca, is easier to grasp and believe?

It's because Peter Parker is someone nobody cares about...
Clark Kent is a journalist...

I dunno, I guess I can let it slide with Spiderman because the movie actually entertained me. Superman lifted heavy stuff, yay. The old ones had humor and acting, the new one has special effects and lifting stuff. And the major sympathy factor, poor kent can't hook up with lois, is resolved in 4 seconds by kent telling her he's superman. derrr, she's got mad hots for superman.

I don't want to sound too negative, I did enjoy the nostalgic music and feel of the movie. And it had its moments. It just needed more superman kicking ass.

There's already a thread about Superman.... Anyway, the reason, at least in the movie, that nobody would go "Oh Clark kent is Superman!" is because no one cares about Clark Kent. You'll notice that nobody really listens to what he says, and he only got his job back because someone died, not because they really wanted or needed him back.

Besides, Metropolis is a very large city. There are a lot more people than just the ones in the Daily Planet. I'll bet there are at least a few other guys who would fit the description as well as Clark Kent.

/me shrugs and walks away

Yeah, I suppose. Poor Clark Kent.

The highlight of the movie was the dog part. "Weren't there two of them?"

I laughed so hard.

Default Re: Superman :-(

the humor was...not that great

The dog thing made me go "ppfttt ha"

When Luther said, "are you sure" and the guy repeated the coordinates, I was like... "ha!"

The funniest thing in the movie is when Luther comes out in his bathrobe and said, while brushing his teeth, "wois"

So, the biggest ball of Kryptonite left in the universe still can't stop superman from lifting a small moon into space, but weakens him enough to get Luther to beat him up.

*shrugs*

"It's impossible, Lois could never have Superman's baby. Do you think her fallopian tubes could handle the sperm? I gurantee you he blows a load like a shotgun right through her back. What about her womb? Do you think it's strong enough to carry her child?"

"Sure, why not?"

"He's an alien, for christ sake. His Kyrptonian biological makeup is enhanced by Earth's yellow sun. If Lois gets a tan the kid could kick right through her stomach. Only someone like Wonder Woman has a strong enough uterus to carry his kid. The only way he could bang regular chicks is with a kryptonite condom, but that would kill him."

I loved the whole Lex Luthor > Kaz Hirai part. At the end of "WRRRRRRRONNNNNNNGGGGGGGG" I was the only one laughing my ass off, though. How awkward is that. Talk about an inside joke.

I don't know what..

Maybe we saw different types of movies.

Like Typhoid mentioned above, there is so much suspension oof belief in the movie that...

You know what.. never mind.. Superman doesn't exist in our realm.. the man is a friggin God,there is no other way to put it. Suspension of disbelief would be if he did anything outside of the powers established in the movies. And as far as I know, he has no invented powers in this one like the first two movies.

As for the Superman/Clark thing, they touched on it in the movie. Lois and Richard even note the comparison but Clark is such a bumbling idiot that no one would believe him to be Superman. And something I saw elsewhere and this is pretty true, how many people would suspect that Superman has an actual secret identity. Actually how many people do you think assume other heroes have secret identities?

I think the parts that were meant to be funnie/serious or whatever came off well.

I have problems with the movies as detailed in the.. you know Superman thread.. but eh
