Amazing.
One part felt a little forced and awkward though....the trip.

Re: The best home made lightsaber duel ever
that was really well done.

I wish i had a lightsaber.
It would also be nice to see other colours like yellow and orange in the movies. oh well.

Re: The best home made lightsaber duel ever
I beg to differ... that movie pales in comparison to this one:

Re: The best home made lightsaber duel ever
What I loved about the first video is that they didn't just rely on quick and cgi acrobatics, which I thought made the fights in the latest movies suffer a bit. Plus, it had a great ghoreography which told a story and included good "force use" moments.
As for the second one, it had great acrobatics and sword play, but other than that it didn't strike me as being very Star Wars at all. It was like Crouching Tiger Hidden Matrix.
Overall, I thought the first was far superior in both concept and and keeping true to the source material.

I don't think you interpreted the second one well. Of course it had the acrobatics and choreography of a Crouching tiger movie, but in essence it was telling a story and in fact the letter he was reading was written by a soldier from world war II whom had been KIA.
I think the second story told a great story as well as the first one. But the original objective of this thread was to show a home made lightsaber duel.... not who captured the essence of Star Wars the best.
In both videos... you had Lightsabers... and a duel.. and force. So in essence, you have a lightsaber duel. If you want I can show you a home made STAR WARS short film, because these are just duels... you'd probably benefit from the shorts a lot more and get more of the Star Wars.
EDIT: I don't understand how you could've gotten one is more Star Warsy then the other... first one, great video good choreography and good force but in retrospect was two kids fighting in a power plant in plain street clothes. The only star wars feeling they had was the light sabers and force.....hmmm

Re: The best home made lightsaber duel ever
first one was definently better. and i agree more 'starwars' feel to it. just the movments really, just has more of the starwars fight feel to it.
also, i think the editing was done better on the first. something bugged me about the lightsabres in the 2nd, didnt seem as good as the first.

Re: The best home made lightsaber duel ever
I prefer the first to be honest. definitely better.
Edit: i also agree the lightsaber effect in the second was sub par compared to the first.
And Mugen the first one is definitely more star warsy than the second. I mean the second one had that whole WWII sub plot that is untrue to star wars. So i see that in retrospect the first one indeed has more of a star wars-esque feeling.
I agree that the first one was just a couple of kids fighting, but it just felt star wars. For me the big turn off to the seoncd was that whole WWII thing, that made it feel so un-star wars.

When I refer to story, I am referring to the story that was told during the battle, not a voiceover. The first video told a better story with no words at all. Secondly, to try and separate lightsaber duels from the Star Wars universe is like separating formulas from mathematics. You can do it, but its notreally still the math we all know, is it.

Sorry, but the force use in the first film was far superior to the second.
How the second was more Star Wars:
1) The fight took place in plant with technology all around them. Much more Star Wars than a forest.
2) The way the the fight was FILMED was much more Star Wars. The close ups, the show of emotion and even the light saber fighting styles.
3) Light saber duels always seemed to be more about intuition than martial arts in the first films and even in the second set. The second home made film seemed to be all about martial arts
4) The use of sound was MUCH better. The music was true to the source material, unlike the second. And the SFX intensified with the intensity of the fight.
5) The lightsabers were wholly unneccesary in the second film. If you replaced them with katana or any other regular sword you would have lost nothing.
Sorry, just my opinion.

Re: The best home made lightsaber duel ever
Oh no doubt I respect your opinion I just thought it would be cool if you could ellaborate more on it. It's cool. But just to clarify any misunderstanding,
the second video was an FX Project done for class. If it's sole intention was to capture the essence of Star Wars I'm pretty sure it would've been done differently.
I'm just saying the second video is a better DUEL because of the martial arts and stuff. I'm not saying it's a better video overall....
the whole point of this thread was about the Duel. In the end, to each his own. Both videos had great choreography and the first video ended really good with a lil trickery at the end. And I like how the second video's duel ended because it was very dramatic and stylish.
If you want to sift through a lot of home made star wars films go to theforce.net and take a gander at all the nice videos.
Actually I happened upon this piece.. what do you think of it:
