Default Oblivion

Well, we are shortly coming to the release of Oblivion, and I have come to the conclusion that the 360 version's quality will determine whether or not I get a 360. I guess that would make it a system lesser, or at least potentially one.

The recent interview on IGN with Bethesda stated that the 360 version would run comparably to a current high end PC, but I will have to see it before I make my rediculous credit card purchase that I cannot afford.

Basically, if I'm stunned by the game when I try it out in EB World, then a 360 and an copy of Oblivion will be mine, If not, I'll wait until I can get a decent PC to run it.

I'd rather play it on PC.

Yes, but this is where economics comes into play.

Xbox 360 + Oblivion = $460

High End PC + Oblivion = $2,000

Now these comparisons in price use the quality of the software as a constant. Meaning, it assumes that what the interview stated was true, and the graphical quality will be comparable if not identical.

This is why I want to play it on the 360 first and I want to do it for 2 reasons:

1) To see if they are lying to me

2) To try out the new combat system. The new combat system includes blocking and more action-RPG style gameplay that looks to suit itself better to a controller than a mouse and board.

Well, it'll run very nice looking but the replayability overtime will drop because I dont see there being much "mods" for it.

I figured it out for my computer and I can make it high end for $1500 or so. If I wanted to buy everything new, closer to $2000 if I wanted a new monitor but I got that months ago and works splendid for everything.

They'll probably have at least a selection of mods on Xbox Live.

Replayability? Are you kidding me? There is no reason to replay it as it basically never ends with over 300 hours of total questing. Plus, the IGN interview stated that they were already working on downloadable content.

You don't need a 2000 dollar PC to run Oblivion. They also pointed out that you need a 360 and a hi-def TV. A good Hi-Def TV will run you at least 2000, and that's going to be a budget buy. So, if you are with Hi-Def TV, then yay-ra for you. My 900 dollar PC will run Oblivion just fine methinks. Grant it, it will look better on the Xbox360, but I don't have 400 dollars to spend. But I do have a hi-def.....*sigh*

Yes, your $900 PC will run it, but I'd rather not pretend that the multi-colored blobs that your processor and vid card would render were actual graphics. In all honesty, the 360 would look better than a $900 PC on just a standard CRT television.

That, plus you have to consider the action-rpg battle system and how it looks to be more suited to a controller more than the far less intuitive keyboard and mouse.

Thats great, so I guess your multi-colored blobs will look better than those on a CRT, but they'll still be blobs since your hardware won't be able to render at a high level of graphical quality. A PC that will run Oblivion at even 360 standards will need considerable hardware that has nothing to do with your monitor. Maybe you have that hardware, but if you don't I think the 360 is your best bet.

Myself? I'm going to need a beast to run Medieval 2 (must buy, no option) at a high level anyway, so I'm just going to save until I can get my dream PC.

Well there you go, then. My argument isn't about whether or not YOU can run Oblivion, but whether or not its more economical to get a 360 + Oblivion or for people to upgrade to get the same effect on their PC in general. Most people don't have PC's that run on a V12 deisel
