Default Question on Notebooks.

I'm looking to purchase a notebook pretty soon (Like right after tax returns)

My whole deal is I want something that's going to be around $1500 max, but I don't want a super slow piece of junk?

I don't really know a lot about notebooks except everyone who I know who has ever gotten one hates it, and it sucks.

I know to get a better piece of equipment I need to blow the bucks but... Ya know?

I'm not looking for an Apple or anything, even though I know iMacs are nice.

What I'm looking for will be something that I can take to class with me because taking notes on a pc would be so much easier than writing them out, I think. I would like to be able to stop after class and work on my class work or something in between class. I would also like to have a nice little laptop that can handle some MMORPG games even. Probably something that's WOW capable? I dunno.

So any help would be appreciated. I guess if I get enough negative feedback about notebooks I wont get one.

hehe

Try this:

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...=E1705S2&s=dhs

and maybe up the processor speed 1 notch and video card from integrated to the Geforce Go 7800 and it should run WoW fine and other apps fine. Right around $1500 (not sure on shipping)

Grr... Another problem with notebooks and me is that I couldn't personally upgrade it. I know my way around a desktop fine. I know it inside and out and pretty much everything about upgrading if I wanted to.

Notebooks though? Nada. I mean I assume it's about the same thing, but... I dunno.

Laptops are sex. I've been using the same IBM ThinkPad for 5-6 years now and it's been my life. I can bring it anywhere and I've used it for school countless times.

My dad's recently been talking about a Mac computer for me because this one is getting ass-old at 689 MHz. At first I was skeptical but I asked around at the other forums and I heard nothing but good things about them. It's pretty much perfect for my major and stream, and the evidence of that lies in the fact everybody around my campus has a powerbook or an iBook.

Looking at pricing, you could probably get a Powerbook for $1499. They're fast, and definitely WoW capable. Or an iBook - the cheapest iBook starts at $999.

You still get more power for less money with a desktop.

I know you want to type notes in class but maybe you could just buy a tape recorder instead. Then either listen to the lecture a few times or write down notes while listening later. The desktop will also last a lot longer than the laptop. I understand your desire though. Being able to pick up and go with your computer and connect to the internet nearly anywhere is really nice.

I would recommend a Dell, I guess. I hear they're good. Or I'd recommend spending more money and getting a Dell gaming laptop or Alienware.

Then of course their's always the tablet PC. Where you literally can write your notes to the screen. And then leave them as is or convert it into computer text. Fun for drawing too. ^_^

Heres the thing if your not buying a absolutely awesome laptop then I wouldn't buy one because:
1.They slow and become crappy way to fast
2.cant play games at decent configurations
3.cant upgraded, and the little that you can costs alot...

Other than that good luck.

@Dyne
Mac's are insanely good computers, if I could afford one Id grab one of the new intel ibooks, the only reason im not running a G5 at home is because i run games other than WoW and most of them dont have compatibility with the OS so id end up using emulators (WINHQ) an using alot more CPU power than needed, ibooks are also very nice for school and such because they look pretty, they are simple (hook up to projector in a jiff) and are really good for graphic editing. If your planning on playing many of the games nowadays and older games go with a PC, although many of the newer pc games are coming out with mac compatibility. Enjoy

APPLE FTW!!!

Don't go dell.

my sister has a HP dz1000, great looking, not too pricey and she tells me it runs quite well too.

erm....whahuh? I was saying select GeForce Go7800 and maybe an upgraded processor. Dell would do that for you, you dont have to do it on your own.

No I understood that.

I'm just saying like for the distant future. Like right now if I wanted to add some RAM to my PC, no prob, I can do that.

I'm just saying if a part broke in my desktop I could fix it. If it broke in my notebook... Probably not.
