UK publisher Codemasters reckons it's ready to deliver a real revolution in dance gaming. The company has announced Dance Factory, which creates moves for any piece of music.
Scheduled for PlayStation 2 launch in the middle of next year, the title is being aimed at a mass-market audience. U.S. distribution deals are currently being negotiated, according to a spokesperson.
Codemasters says the game can take any track from any music CD, play it and automatically generate dance routines, played out on-screen. Previous dance mat games that have had pre-set play lists limited to the licensed tracks on the game. It's been developed by Broadsword Interactive, the team behind the Dance UK series.
Nicky Hewitt, director of marketing at Codemasters said, "This is an incredible development in social gaming and will give anyone the ability to choose the tracks they want to groove to on a dance mat. Rather then be limited by a built-in play list, the freedom Dance Factory offers enables it to span across all music tastes.
"This freedom also means the game won't be dated by a forced play list - you can as easily play it with a classic disco track or the current number one.
"It's a great unique feature and just one of the many we've yet to reveal on this exciting project that is set to deliver the most accessible and fun dance mat game ever."

kills their ability to sell expansion packs but the price point might hold a little longer on this one compared to DDR (which drops as soon as the next game is released)
