Oh no! London attacked :(
- First explosion reported at 8.59am London time (17.59 AEST).
- At least one London bus blown up in Russell Square, reports of two others in Marylebone and South Kensington.
- Explosions reported at Underground stations Edgware Road, King's Cross, Liverpool Street, Old Street, Russell Square, Aldgate East and Moorgate.
- London transport system shutdown.
- At least 12 dead, 185 injured
Quote:
Near simultaneous explosions rocked the London Tube and three double-decker buses at the morning rush hour today.
There were reports of deaths and scores of injuries along with fears of a coordinated terror attack.
|
Quote:
Security experts said the apparent attacks bore all the hallmarks of the al Qaeda network.
"If what are looking at is a simultaneous bombing, and it does look like that, it would very certainly fit the classic al Qaeda methodology which centres precisely on that, multi-seated hits on transport and infrastructural targets,'' said Dr Shane Brighton, intelligence expert at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence.

Re: Oh no! London attacked :(
Forty are confirmed dead now. The terrorists are once again trying to break our resolve by attacking not only us but our closest ally. And of course they are going after civilians, bastards.

I'll go off on a rant later, but for today my heart is with Great Britain. We are with you all.

Or maybe this attack on London was actually aimed at London...
And they're trying to break the resolve of the people of England...

Even if it WERE aimed at London, theres a certain thing called Cause and Effect. Since we're Britain's closest ally it will effect us more so then others, considering we've been attacked by terrorists before to.
The one thing that pisses me off is that all this time people were ranting about the Iraqi war when targets were military facilities, and how wrong it was to do that. That Iraqi war could have been evaded by Saddam. NOW... we're being attacked again by terrorism, and targeting civilians again.
I friggin hate terrorism....terrorists can suck on it. Cowards they are....

You do realize when I said "our" I was inferring the United States, Great Britain, and our other allies.

Sheesh. And I thought Al Qaeda was all done.
I feel bad for all the families of London, because the Subway is usually a mix of people from everywhere. It's a greater area affected.
Stupid terrorists. They better get what's coming to them.

If they do, you think people will object to it like they did the first time we went into Afghanistan?

Sorry, I was just still irritated with the fact that I woke up, turned on the news, saw the headline "TERROR ATTACK", and for a good 5-10 minutes got aboslutely no details on what had actually happened (no little captions or anything), but instead heard a bunch of stuff about how America is on Orange alert, New Yorker's know what they're going through, etc...

Re: Oh no! London attacked :(
I'm surprised it was only one bus. I was expecting at least say 3-5 more bus's to be blown since they are the easiest to go after.
BUt it is bad news. Shutting down London's train/bus network is very harsh to do. Just like killing all air travel for a week or so in the US was

I don't know if this is true or not, but I thought I heard them saying they found some bombs that didn't explode. They probably had planned to go after more than just one bus.
