Problem with my wireless network connection
I am having trouble with my laptop. Wondering if any of you have ever had the same problem and know what to do.
It shows that I have a strong connection to the wireless router, but when I try to open any kind of internet page I get an error. I have tried repairing the router connection. Unplugging the router and plugging it back in. Disconnecting from the network and reconnecting. And basicly everything else I know how to do. I am at a loss.
Any suggestions?

Re: Problem with my wireless network connection
Have you unplugged the cable/dsl modem and plugged it back in also? That usually solves problems. you say you disconnected from network but dont know if you meant that or not.

Re: Problem with my wireless network connection
yes, i did unplug and plugged it back in.
and now, my computer won't even connect to the network. I was able to connect to the router but just couldn't get any web pages to work. now it won't connect at all.

Re: Problem with my wireless network connection
Is your router set at it's default factory settings or did you change them when you bought it?

Re: Problem with my wireless network connection
Your wireless router should have an access IP address.
In any case, this usually happens if you have Ethernet connection enabled but you don't have a ethernet cable plugged in. Usually you have to disable your Ethernet connection "Disable" and not leave it as "Disconnected" so that your proxy settings default to the Wi Fi connection.
Possible Solution
Turn everything off, including your computer. Plug in the modem, plug in the router, let both run their course with the flashing lights. Then, turn on your computer.
If a bubble saying, "Windows has detected available wireless networks" click on it.
If not, go to Control Panel and View Wireless Network Connections.
If it detects them, connect to the router. Go to NETWORK CONNECTIONS and disable any other high-speed broadband connection except for the Wireless Network connection.

Re: Problem with my wireless network connection
Are you using special software for the network, or Windows XP?
I learned that not using the program that came with my card made connecting a lot easier.

Re: Problem with my wireless network connection
I only used the software with my Wireless Notebook Adapter to install the drivers for it. I used Windows XP to detect wi-fi.
LOL it detected like 6 other access points in my neighborhood but I had like 1 bar of signal on each of them.

Re: Problem with my wireless network connection
Thanks for the suggestions guys but that is all stuff that I had already tried. Then I spent a few hours on the phone with the tech people for my computer and for my router. They don't know what is wrong. They're supposed to be calling me back but I think i'm just going to try to get the router exchanged. The company says that may be what needs to be done.

Re: Problem with my wireless network connection
She even called me last night for help. That's how desperate she is. I'm clueless.

Re: Problem with my wireless network connection
I have no experience whatsoever with wireless networks, but have you tried looking at your browsers connection settings? With my DSL modem, I have to choose "Never dial a number" and set my DSL connection as default.
Edit: Ooops.. I didn't see your post about not being able to connect to the network. I have no idea about that...

Re: Problem with my wireless network connection
if i understand, you can connect to the network but not to the internet.
if thats the case, it could be two things:
1. your browser connection settings
or
2. your hub connection settings.
you are able to connect to the network, so you're able to connect to the hub. but the hub can't connect to the modem.
so either your hub went back to factory default settings somehow and you need to set it up again to suit your connection. or your computer is using a different type of connection which doesn't exist to try to connect to the internet.
both cases have allready been addressed.
i would suggest you look into the hub settings once more though becuase i had this happen to me as well.

Re: Problem with my wireless network connection
But she said that suddenly it's not detecting the hub. So her best bet would be to exchange for a new router.

Re: Problem with my wireless network connection
She's going to France for a month and she wants to take her new laptop with her. Also, it's not very conveinent for her to use the PC she is using now. I think it would be helpful if she could figure out if her laptop will get the internet when she is in France on a different connection.
