IGN article
So what do you make of this IGN article about the Xbox 2? Supposedly the Xenon will have only three controller ports, two in front and one usb in back. Furthermore the controller is losing the triggers in favor of PS2-like shoulder buttons. If this is true I can't says I like it all. I also don't like the HD being optional. Why can't I buy a complete console? I feel like MS is spiraling out of control with all these add-ons and modifications. In their zeal for creating a multimedia machine they're losing sight of the actual gaming. I don't want to visit the poor house in order to play Xbox 2.

Re: IGN article
I agree. I think that Sony is getting a better idea at the moment, and right now between those two, I'm definetely shifting from teh Xbox 2 to the PS3. Of course, E3 will probably decide it for me, but I agree with you. It looks like Microsoft is going in the wrong direction.

Re: IGN article
really its just 2 controller ports, they're kidding themselves with the 1 usb in back, thatsl ike saying the PS3 will have 8 controller ports, 4 normal, 2 wireless, and 2 usb. All BS aside, PS3 has 4 controller ports, (going by what rumors and stuff suggest) and by the same fuction, Xbox2 has 2.
Whatever the case is. Xbox2 isnt looking so hot. and now nintendo not even showing evolution at E3 ? very strange.

Re: IGN article
I want to save money this generation by buying Revolution and either Xbox 2 or PS3. At first I was excited about Xbox 2, but now PS3 is looking more attractive. It would kind of suck to miss out on Halo 3, but I'm sure people will still be playing Halo 2 well into Xenon's release. Plus the Dragon Quest series is likely to remain with the playstation and those are must-haves for me. Of course I too will wait until E3 before deciding anything.
Backwards compatibilty is being worked on for Xenon, but again you must purchase a HD for that.

Re: IGN article
well, sony did only 2 controller ports this generation and they did well... well most PS2 games that sell well are only 1 player games...(sports games excluded)
most xbox and gc games that sell well are 4 player
not coincidence

Re: IGN article
I'm thinking PS3 will just own the E3 this year. considering the information we have at hand, and not being a fanboy.
Revolution not shown, PS3 will be playable.
Xbox II will only have 2 ports and optional HD? The pS3 is already confirmed to have a HDD on their PS3......
Sony is looking to be the smarter company this generation and I wouldn't be surprised if they take the next-generation like this generation did.

Re: IGN article
Poor move by microsoft to only do 2 controller ports, also don't like the fact that the Hard Drive is optional. I would rank PS2 last on my list for the current generation, but I think PS3 will end up being first on my list if Microsoft an Nintendo don't get their act together.

Re: IGN article
I think it's really strange that Microsoft is only including 2 physical controller ports. It's like they want to discourage the concept multiplayer gaming. Is it possible that wireless controllers will be made bringing the total number up to 4? Even so, it's still a poor decision to make consumers have to buy wireless controllers if they want to have more than 2 (or 3) players.
In regards to the HD being optional, isn't Microsoft going to have like 3 different models of Xbox 2. So one will come with the HD, right?

its a rumor. not exactly a lie, it could end up having no sight of evolution at e3 and only get some brief information. or it could end up showing a short video and nothing else.
no one knows for sure what nintendo will show at e3 all thats known is they said it wont be playable.

I make it as typical IGN "let's never let the facts get in the way of a good story" bull****.
Talking out of their asses is the one thing that IGN is good for.
It could be true, but any truth that, that statement would posses would be completely independent from any factual information that IGN may or may not possess.

Why would you make a 1st-generation console with ONLY an HD and then make a 2nd with an HD option? I'd rip my existing one out of my Xbox 1.

Re: IGN article
All I can say is that the moves that Microsoft is making for the next console has me shaking my head. The Xbox made several great steps forward for consoles with the improvement on the Dreamcast style controller triggers, standard four controller ports and the inclusion of an HD with every Xbox.
Now it seems that not only is Microsoft not moving forward with new innovations, but they are removing the ones they already had and traipsing down the failure ridden road of "too many peripherals". I imagine this was what the final green light meeting for the next Xbox was like
Quote:
Bill Gates - "Well we made a great splash with the Xbox, Jay. What do you have planned for the next gen console?"
Jay Allard - "Now stay with me here: I say we remove two of the controller ports, get rid of those annoyingly pressure sensitive, oh-too-comfortable and intuitive triggers on the controller and finally... wait for it... make the HD OPTIONAL... so that developers will never feel comfortable including its use in gameplay because they won't have every NextBox owner able to play their games!!!"
Bill Gates - "Jay... I can't believe what you just said... BRILLIANT!! By removing some of the best aspects of our console, especially the ones that differentiated our console from the others, we'll be sure to rule the next generation of home gaming. But here's what we need to do to really stand out:
"1) Make the disc drive optional. Sure, if they don't get it the customers can't play any games, but think of the PERIPHERAL SALES.
"2) Forget backward compatibility... we'll just remove forward compatibility. We'll drop down to a 16 bit system and revive Sonic the Hedgehog and Altered Beast, BUT give the ability to play used Intellivision cartridges.
"3) For every unit sold, we'll include a coupon for a "FREE chest dumping" from a Singapore whore.
...
"and oh yeah, slap some handles on that mother ****er. Not just one, because that would not be redundant enough. We'll need at least two so that we'll be TWICE as portable as the Gamecube."
|
I don't care what it costs. Bring Seamus Blackley back to Microsoft's gaming devision. Each day without him makes the PS3 look that much better.
