Interesting stuff. I always figured it was hard to map the ocean because its everchanging and very huge.

Echoscoping is the answer to this problem.

I also think it would be hard to map the sea becuase it can be very dark too.

I still think it's strange that the submarine didn't have any alrm or detection that it was going to crash into something large. I also don't get how it could've killed someone. Wouldn't it have just made some people fall down?

Back when I was doing stuff for the navy I was on a research vessel which was constantly mapping the bottom. You could watch the 3D graph develop in real-time. The ocean is so big that I can see how it would take a long time to map it all considering you only get tiny slivers at a time.
