Bertuzzi assualt trial could end up on TV

Being an avid Canuck fan, and Loving Bertuzzi, This is a big deal to me...so heres an update.

VANCOUVER (CBC) — The CBC and six other Vancouver television stations have applied to televise the assault trial of Canuck star Todd Bertuzzi.

The media outlets filed a joint application in provincial court on Friday.

The Vancouver Canuck star goes on trial next month on charges of assault causing bodily harm for his attack on Steve Moore of the Colorado Avalanche last March. He was also suspended for the remainder of the 2003-04 regular season and playoffs, which cost him more than $500,000 US in salary.

If convicted, Bertuzzi could face 18 months in jail.

- FROM MAR. 11, 2004: Bertuzzi gone for rest of season

Moore suffered two broken vertebrae in his neck, a broken jaw and a concussion. He was unable to play for the rest of the NHL season.

Back in 2000, Marty McSorley of the Boston Bruins was charged with assault after slashing Vancouver Canuck Donald Brashearin the head.

McSorley was convicted of assault with a weapon, but was given an 18-month conditional discharge

ok...does it seem strange to you that McSorely used a weapon....and got the same charge?

Its like giving someone who pre-meditated a murder the same as someone who killed accidentally.
